Is there a way to stop the screen from dimming on the E71 after like 4 seconds?

Or maybe even delay the dimming?

This might be really patronising, but are you sure there isn't a setting or utility for that somewhere. It might be lasted as 'battery-saving' or "backlight" something like that.

I can't remember much about Symbian OS in all honesty, last time I used it was on an E61 a few years ago.
I used a N97 for a few days last week (before I consider upgrading to it) and it completely put me off Symbian forever. Roll on Windows Mobile 7 to make mobile OS wars interesting.

I just Google "backlight E71" and one of the results was for backlight control software, so if you can't find something on your phone, something like that would be a good bet. Just make sure you can trust the program - it's been tested etc. (sorry if this bit is patronising too).

It does sound like its the light sensor kicking in. Mine does that as well.
If you go in to settings/general/Personalisation/Display/light Sensor you can set it to full. That should stop it changing.

I've changed them both to max, 90 seconds... will thsi have a bad impact on the screen life? I dont have insurance

I doubt it. Its more to conserve power rather than anything else IMO.
I would say 90 secs seems a bit long but i cant see it hurting the screen much.

It's 90 seconds after you've stopped using it or after your last press of a button, so it's probably at least a minute too long - it'll probably annoy you when you're in a darker room, where it'll attract attention because of the light.

Go for 20 seconds to 30 seconds, that way it won't dim while you're reading something, nor will it stay on for too long after you've put it down.


Setting it to 90 seconds will only have an impact on your battery - screen life is very, very unlikely to be affected, even if it was, it would be covered by any warranty, so you don't need insurance.

Will it have a significant impact on the battery? I play poker online phone and it does my head in when the screen dims and I cant see the cards!

It probably will, but maybe it won't have much effect on you - depends on how much you use the phone and how often you charge.

If you charge the phone every night like I do, regardless of battery status, it shouldn't be a problem
