When one of my dogs knocked over my PS2, I was playing GTA: VC at the time. When I tried to reload the game it said "disc error".

Looking more closely at the disc there are a couple of nasty scuffs near the inside of the recorded side.

Are there any proven ways of polishing out marked discs?

Any help would be much appreciated.

There is a device on the market called Game doctor It basically resufaces the disc, and works very well I have one and I cant argue with it, they are about £25 and you can get them from Game, and Virgin Megastore (where I got mine)

If you after a cheaper option then maybe you should try the DVD/CD Restorer Polish and Cloth. I got it from Maplin for around 4 pounds.

One of my DVDs keep on skipping and I noticed some scratches on it. A drop of the restorer and a good wipe and now the DVD is skip free.

i've heard braso is very good for scratched disks.

I'd test it on some crappy disc first as ive never tried it

ive heard from a reliable source that vice city is an absolute bitch to repair,and to be honest the scratches wont make that much difference!also he told me the first 400,000 copies were faulty anyway[dont know if this is all true]would i be right in believing that the game crashes right at the start,on the motorbike part?

Actually what you say could be true but I don't think its related to godzillas problem since he has trouble just loading the game so he can't even get to the point where it can crash.

The reason why I partially agree with you is because Vice City has crashed 3-4 times for me during my entire play of it so far. It tended to happen when I was flying about. The music kept on going but the game just froze.

I think it's funny how Rockstar haven't yet come forward and say Vice City was released in an unfinished state. It's no more than a beta IMO - I haven't played such a bugged, rushed, unfinished game in years.

Back to the problem. I doubt you'll be able to do much with a scratched disc and IMO those disc repairers do more harm than good. It's a long shot but have you tried those disc protectors? It's like a clear plastic that you put over the disc. It might help the PS2 to read the damaged data? Worth a try anyway


Failing that, just sell it on here (joke)

rockstar also did gta3 another bugged game try vice city on the pc, its much better than ps2 version

No thanks - once was enough, thanks. The last thing I'd want to do is complete that game again, no matter how much of an improvement it was

Try http://www.thatzdvd.com/disc_repair.asp they will sort out the disk for a few quid, I've found them excelent

I have heard (though not tested) that lightly boiling your disks gets them back up and running. Get a pan to the boil and leave it to simmer then place disk in pan avoiding touching the disk against anything. Leave for a few minutes. A lot of sources have confirmed this works well with Xbox games, but I'd only try it as a last resort.

Wouldnt that warp the disc making it totally unplayable. Boiling water and Plastic???? Not a good idea IMO

Well that is what I thought. I presume it has to be closer to luke warm than boiling. Might give it a go tonight with some old magazine demo disks that I don't mind going all Salavador Dahli on me.

After recently thinking of it and then trying it on a scratched disk I have found a solution, T-Cut does a great job.

Rub it on, leave till dry (3-4 mins) then buff it off.

I have tried the following with DVDs and itll work with game disks
Stick the disc in the freezer for 30 minutes
bring it out leave it at room temperature for 5minutes then put it in ur console i bet it now plays.

Your right thats another good way of doing it.

So boil them or freeze them....though probably best to try freezing them first.

I used an online company F.U.CD or something like that. They charges about 6 quid a disc I think including postage.

I can't understand what the problems is with GTA3 and VC I've got both and love em to bits and never had a problem with crashes in the extensive time I've spent on them.

Someone is pulling your leg DO NOT boil ur discs this will warp the discs and really make them unplayable, try the freezin method but when u take them out of the freezer be careful and give the disk a wipe with something like allsops dvd fast wipes.

Strange. When I was bored I put one of them AOL discs and boiled it for 10 minutes, didn't warp!
