Question Dreamcast + Vga box

I am after a vga box for my Dreamcast to connect to my Projector. What sort of price should I be paying and where can I get one from - are the 3rd Party one's as good as the official Sega ones? Any info appreciated.

Cheers

I bought a Madness vga converter for my dreamcast back before the system went belly up. I paid about 50 aussie dollars for it which is about 20 pounds or so.
it also has s-video and composite video outs as well as stereo sound output.
now that the system is dead i would suggest trying to pick one up second hand for about 10pound or so, i'd sell you mine if you were in oz but you aint. try these forums e-bay or some retailers may still stock them, you will have to check around.

as for quality, i have no complaints with mine its as clear as you could expect a 640x480 image to be on a vga monitor or projector(ie.almost too clear) so i doubt you would get much better even from an official unit.
be warned though that the clarity of the picture does make the low texture abilities of the dreamcast very apparrent.
also not all dreamcast games support the use of a vga connector
so check the back packaging of your favourite games.

I have a Blaze VGA adapter. I bought it from Amazon before the DC died (about 20 months ago). It works like a dream with most monitors.

I'd avoid hooking one up to a LCD unless it has 20ms or better response time. Most DC games run at 60 frames a sec, so you'll get a lot of "ghosting" on slower LCD's.

The Dreamcast is the only machine that supports VGA properly, might as well get a proper DC VGA box (HAIS) for £8 from play- asia or lik-sang, those multi purpose ones suffer with quality issues.

I have the Blaze one, superb picture on a VGA monitor (makes you realize the advantage PC's have when comparisons are made to console games)
the Blaze headphone socket suffers with interference, but the Audio out is fine.

thanx everyone - went for the HAIS vga box in the end, I was going to get an official one from ebay but @ £41 I thought better of it.

Can't wait to play F355 on my AE100....
