X-BOX and Dolby Digital

I've just taken deliery of an X-BOX and a Joytech lead with optical cable.

I've attached the optial lead to the MD/CDR optical input on my Yamaha DSP-AX620 and the phone leads to the relevant input as well. In the XBOX setup menu, I've enabled Dolby Digital.

The problem is that the amp thinks it's only getting Dolby Pro Logic and not Dolby Digital - I've tried using other inputs on the amp and another optical cable without success - I've tried different games as well - HALO and Rallysport Challenge.

Am I missing something?

Thanks

John

I dont know for sure but I would suggest to remove the audio phono connections, not needed as you are using the optical cable.
Also I dont know about the 620 but on my AX2 you can have to select the optical port in the set up menu.
If you dont have a set up menu you may have to toggle through the choice of sound inputs on the front panel somewhere?
Sorry no experience on Xbox or the 620 but it seems an easy problem to fix.

firstly check it's in the input and not output optical, and maybe put it into a different input (there's plenty to choose from). I know a few people that use Xbox with an AX620 and have no problems..
Hope you get it sorted..

Well, I've tried a few more things and still no luck:

Unplugging the phono leads results in no sound at all.
If I plug my DVD player into the input instead of the XBOX, I get Dolby Digital.
If I plug the XBOX into the input I use for the DVD player, I get no sound.

So, I can only think of two things it can be:

1. The XBOX itself - unlikely.
2. The part of the lead that plugs into the XBOX - I've tried an optical lead that I know works so it cant be the optical lead.
