Micro - great fun !

Having owned all the Gameboys at one point or another I thought I'd get one of these the other day.

I did panic a bit afterwards thinking I'd made the wrong decision and should've got another DS (I did have one at launch and sold it within a month).

However, after a few games of Advance Wars and Metroid Fusion I've really taken to it. For me, it's the portability factor. When i'm out and about I suddenly remember it's in my pocket and out it comes for 10 minutes for a game or two.

Just wish I hadn't sold off a load of Advance games last year!

The Micro is defintely an amazing piece of kit - uberportable and packed with great games.

Sold mine to pick up the forthcoming DS Lite but boy do I miss it - The PSP just doesn't come anywhere near it...

Nintendo get some things very wrong, and other things so very right - I mean, the world gasped in the amazement, they'd finally completely lost it, a new handheld that is just repackaged 3 year old hardware?

Madness!!!.........

....Oh hold on a sec, portable gaming you say?? Creating an ultra portable handheld gaming system that really does fit into your trouser pocket un-noticed? Nah, it'll never work - You need a huge widescreen display, big bulky substantial looking man's man handheld, one that you can only realistically play in the house. Silly Nintendo, will you ever learn!

It does look like a nifty piece of kit, however my only barrier at the mo is price. Once it comes down a bit I'm sure I'll get one, especially as the screen is probably better than my first generation GBA SP.

I paid £40 for mine with a couple of games from eBay. The games had no boxes but the Micro was basically brand new.

The screen is very good. Even though it is very small the brightness helps make up for it.

I'm having great fun playing all the old favourites. I even spent part of the afternoon today humming the Mario theme tune! Sad? probably!

The Micro's strong point has definitely got to be its portability. It's small enough that I don't realise i'm carrying it. Then there is that nice feeling when you have 5 minutes e.g. waiting for the other half outside work where you can whip it out and have a quick blast of Metroid.

Just had a look and ebay and these seem to go for around £50 (incl p&p), not a bad price considering a brand new 360 game is the same price. The question do I really need a third member of the GBA family...

Just bought one of these and it's a great little console! It really is amazing that they have crammed it all into such a small handheld! The cart takes up almost half of the unit and when you consider that there's a rechargable battery in there as well it's just amazing!

It's the only handheld that you can really have with you at all times and although the likes of the PSP and DS are more powerful they are not as practical to have with you in your pocket where ever you go.

Brilliant console Nintendo - can't fault it, my fave handheld .

Seems great so far Tejstar. I charged it yesterday and must have played about 5-6 hours on it so far (Advance Wars 2 is rather addictive ) so haven't really seem how long it lasts for yet.

Fantastic little machine though, it really is. I really can't overstate how important it's size and portability is.

Advance Wars 2 is fun isn't it! That game is probably the main reason why I bought the Micro as I've been wanting to play it for a while.

Your right about the portability factor - this thing goes everywhere with me. While I do love my PSP it's just too big to carry around.

Indeed, it's a very good game. I'd played the first one but not this one and it certainly doesn't disapoint - just as good, if not better than the first for me.

I must admit that I had a similar quandry to yourself in whether I went for a DS or the Micro. To be honest I wouln't have minded Mario Kart DS but on the other hand I already have a "larger" handheld in the PSP and wanted a handheld that I could litterally take anywhere.

I'm personally very chuffed that I went for the Micro in the end and can see it getting loads of play!

Super Mario Advance 3 : Yoshi Island just arrived in the post this morning and looks like it will be a great game. The cartoon graphics look amazing on the Micro's screen.

Too many games to play now. Poor old 360 hasn't had a look in for weeks!

Cheers mate it seems (according to the official site) that battery life lasts between 7-13 hours depending on the use of the backlight, which is about the same as the SP.

Would love to see one in the flesh to see how portable it is!

I can assure you that it's very portable indeed. I have a Sony Ericsson W800i phone and it's just a little bit bigger than that . Just had another couple of hours on Advance Wars 2 and the batter is still going strong.

The screen is excellent - very sharp & bright so there's no need to have the brightness up reall.

If it helps make you buy the new DS, it has the same quality screens on the lite but bigger

Just died for the first time tonight - probably after about 8-10 hours use.

I have a DS Lite on order so should get that early-mid March

Nothing beats the Micro for portability though and I feel over its life, it will get the most use of Micro/PSP/DS etc.

I agree, the Micro is easily the best handheld out of the three, simply because of it's portability. I have mostly been playing Advance Wars 2 and find text easily readable on it's great screen, so i'd guess that it should be fine for other games too.

Those dimensions give me a good idea as I have a SE K750i phone - I didn't realise it was that small! Don't you get finger cramp?

It's around 5mm larger than the w800i/k750i in each direction so not much in it really. Strangely enough it's probably the most comfortable handheld i've used, the buttons and D-Pad are well placed and all it's small size means is that your hands are closer together, which isn't a problem.

Have a look at this page to see how it compares with the competition size-wise:

Got mine today, superb machine. suprised at the clarity of the picture and text. Really impressed.

Picked up Zelda:LTTP and Shining soul II but was wondering if the GBA flash cards work okay with Micro? I prefer buying legit stuff but its hard to get your hands on some older games. Also, if the flash works will the Micro play GB and GBC games?

They are fantastic aren't they. Not sure about the flash cards - I would assume they would.
