Nintendos disruptive console

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/news.php?aid=14730

Seems nintendo are marketing the Revo at a very different demographic than the PS3 and 360. A wide move? I say yes. They cant compete with the 360 and PS3 for power without being in the same price bracket but they can release a cheap console and still deliver what they always do, great gameplay.
The comparisons to the IPOD is very clever, get on the coat tails of one of the most sucessfull consumer products ever. But saying the ipod is cheap is ridiculous, its the most expensive of all the mp3 players. But I see what nintendo were trying to do, they are really going to market their console on its price. In the past they tried to copete directly with the other consoles but now its all about price. The Revo will launch at the cheapest possible price to make it the must have "toy" this year.
I'm warming tot he Revo more and more, i'm just hoping the UK model is as good as the UK 360 model, I dont want to have to import another nintendo console, that will just wipe out all the cheapness as I am forced to pay import prices.

Import prices? I bought a UK GCN, and since Freeloader came out, I haven't bought a single UK game, for reasons of price and prog scan support. I will almost certainly buy a US Revo, so that - in the extremely likely event that Freeloader doesn't work on it - I can play my Cube collection games, and take advantage of cheaper prices on games. Using dvdboxoffice or videogamesplus has saved me a lot of money since I bought my Cube.

You try and buy a new nintendo console on import and not pay stupid prices!
Yes the games are slightly cheaper by getting them online but if you want some games at release forget about web sites as they will be shipping to the USA first and foremost. And then a console will have to be bought from a import shop and thats going to be expensive.

I agree completely with the progressive scan comment, I will have to buy a USA revolution if the UK version doesnt support PS.

You'll only be stung financially if you try and buy one of the first shipment of consoles on import.

Experience suggests it's far more sensible to wait for the second shipment after release as these are likely to benefit from better build quality, wider availability and hence lower prices.

If the European consoles again penalise us for being European then I will also buy from the US.

I never buy the first wave of import consoles, cant afford the £500+ price tags. I normally wait about 6 weeks in after a console is launched when the prices have settled down a bit. I admit I still pay over the ods but when there is a new zelda or mario game on a new nintendo console I think its worth paying a bit extra for.
