could the rev controller be the end of our beloved nintendo?

while i think its a fantastic idea and will bring lots of inovation to the table. MS has got off to a good start and we know PS3 will be in most homes.

so which will the developers go for? the people who make the games may like to make games in a different way (or lazy ones too afraid to) but i see the directors saying "well which should we do, limit our next game to 15% of the market, or make it multi platform for the 360 and ps3 stealing the other 85% of the market?"

bit of a no brainer really

i hope nintendo lives on, il buy there funky rev with its great games, il hate the lack of HD but il still buy it for the novelty and some of the greats they will have

I don’t think Ninty will try and compete with the likes of Sony and MS. They will strike a price point for the console that will ensure they make profits on each sold, unlike the case with the 360 and PS3.

Regarding game development, obviously the stronger first wave titles will probably come from in-house and given Ninty’s pedigree I have no doubt there’ll be something special at launch. Moving forward though, the Revo may suffer when it comes to multi-format titles but given the success of the DS I don’t think you can write them off right now.

yes DS may be a runaway sucess (tho psp is taking a huge chunk from nintendos old monopoly) but i think its fair to say the cost to develop and sales ratio for the DS is nothing like a home console ala ps2

companies can have as little as 3 people working on a DS game or even 1 person if its a port. as for console games people making them can run into the hundreds easily

the main reason psp is outselling DS is because of stock of the DS(it keeps running out etc)

the psp has only outsole the ds the past two weeks due to shortages.

the rev will be compeating with the m$ and ps3 they are just less concerned with the specs. this is an early adoption from ninty in that we've peaked recently in gfx processing. the ps1 was around prior to any standardisation in the pc gfx market and neither ati or nvidia were out in front. the ps2 generation of consoles was around the time that ati and nvidia were starting to get a stranglehold on the gfx market.

if you've got a pc you'd understand that there hasn't really been leaps and bounds in gfx. fps shooters which are the main reason people upgrade their cards haven't really raised the bar much graphically. try checking the specs needed to run halflife2.

basically ninty are not buying hi-end gfx and processing they are taking a step back and saying, okay give me what will play everything i need now not in 2 years time.

they have been down this road before and specs do not make the console, the cube was more powerfull than the ps2 and which was more popular?

if the ds is a good sign of form for ninty expect the rev to be a runaway success this generation.

but at the end of the day it all comes down to games, not gfx, not hdtv, if you think anything else you shouldn't play console games you've missed the point.
