I envy you for not playing it before. It's a fab game, one of my favourite versions is the GBA one. However, I've heard the DS one is even better. It's no wonder this game is on many top 5 lists of last year.

I bought a 360 and Cube in the same week. But all my mates and me have ignored the 360 and played Mario Kart solidly

I know, I was a bit surprised about that - I thought it was going to be Forza, but that wasn't even a runner-up!

So who's got MK up and running online? I'd like to arrange for a chosen few to get an online session going this week.

I bought a DS on Tuesday, went for the MK bundle with the intent of not playing it much, devoting all my time to Tony Hawk. MK is brilliant, I couldn't even bother to play it before! Can't put it down. Trying to master boost drifting is difficult, but I'm going to gold all the grand prix on 150cc before I go online.

That's what I found with the GBA version, you just have to complete all tracks at 150cc and get gold - it was fiendishly difficult on the GBA but got the frustrating/reward balance just right.

Given that you can pick this up for £18 from blah.com it's a no-brainer.

I bought a Nintendo DS a week or so ago just to play this game!

The DS is a more impressive piece of kit than I was expecting, the graphics are actually really good. The buttons make my hands a little sore though, almost as if they weren't designed for adults.

Mario Kart is amazing, I've been a fan ever since the SNES version, and this is definitely the best, a real return to form by Nintendo after the disappointing N64 and Gamecube versions.

Couldn't for the life of me get it connected to my home wireless network, but ordered the adaptor you can plug into the back of an Internet connected PC, so that should do the job.

Had my first taste of wireless download play with my friend's daughter, it's staggering really. She didn't have the game but within seconds of downloading wirelessly from me we could play, and it's a lot of fun!

Byt he way, do you know that Nintendor signed a deal with www.thecloud.net ?

There are simply 1000s of hotspots all across the UK you can connect your DS to for free and play online, and you can search for the nearest one on that website. Places like all Coffee Replublics are hotspots.

DS gets a definite thumbs up! Oh and Advance Wars is amazing!

yes to all the above.

i picked up a DS, MK and Advance Wars from my local Gamestation for £110 last week (tho I had to haggle a bit - could have got Sonic instead of AW for £105) and I have been blown away. the idea its just SNES or N64 level of graphics is way off. and the sheer "fun" factor of just turning it on for a quick blast is incredible. I have not had a handheld since the original gameboy, but I think I have been missing out.

agree its not entirely comfortable, maybe my hands are too big. might be better with the lighter DS Lite when that comes out.....

done some online MK - i thought i was a good player, from my SNES days, but i got some work to do before I can return I think...

oh - i could not get connected to my home wireless, but I put in a static IP on the DS and that did the trick. it seems the DHCP client on it is a little intolerant of some routers.

Yeah I had already tried that, but found another thread shortly after posting yesterday where people with the same router as me, the D-link 604G, completely unable to get their DS' to work, apparently it needs a firmware update for the DS to work with it.

But won't it be worse then, as the lite will be smaller?

i was thinking more in terms of the weight. the way I hold it, to get my fingers on the controls is a little awkward, so the lighter the thing is the less my fingers will get strained....i dunno. we will see.it's a small issue anyhow, nothing major,
