"Revolution" Specs Announced

http://revolution.ign.com/articles/673/673799p1.html

Nintendo has revealed some of the possible specs of the Revolution system, and at first glance, spec wise, it seems to be no better than an over clocked gamecube.

The CPU and GPU are extensions of the current Gamecube specs.

I know that specs arent everything, but they do also tell what the system will be capable of and what it wont be capable of.

I think that if these specs are true, I doubt Revo will be capable of anything higher than 480p, and No AA or AF.

Still, thats not what constitutes a good game, but it also means we wont see any graphical improvements in future mario or other nintendo titles.

Looks to me like ninty feel like the cube was underused/underapreaciated by developers and customers alike and they are basicaly repacking it in a new box, and giving it a new controller. (thus extending the life cycle of the gamecube)

I do beleive that there is still a lot the Gamecube can do, but the masses like new shiny toys.

The Dreamcast was in a similar position to the gamecube now.
Even today, the DC can produce similar quality graphics and sometimes even better to what the PS2 can do. (which is considered to be a current gen system even though it doesnt hold a candle to the xbox or the gamecube.)

A bit dissapointing really. But as the saying goes, "Its not how powerfull it is, its how you use it."

i'm guessing the launch price will be kept low then (while still making a profit).

similar situation with the ds and psp.... £200 for a psp and a game Vs. £99 for a ds and game.. not sure which will sell most over xmas, depends on stock levels too obv

Apparently devs have said that it is roughly over twice as powerful as the Gamecube but still haven't had any experience of the Hollywood GPU.

AML, I'm sure it'll have AA & AF as the gamecube does this on practically every game, just check out Mario Smash Soccer I couldn't find a jaggie if I tried

I've heard the launch price was going to be around 149 USD. I'm more interested in the controller more than anything else. With such a low price, it's definitely a contender for my 2nd game system.

And that is supposed to be Nintendo's exact strategy to handle the PS3/360 by competing without competing.

Personally I can't wait for the Revo to be released as the gaming world could really do with some innovation - All you get these days is the same old crap but with fancier graphics.

maybe i'm being narrow minded but i am still pretty dubious of how well the controller is going to do.... and how many different types of games can be made without it just becoming gimmicky.

we need some real vids of it in action, details of games etc.

I like Ninty's strategy, they really are positioning this product as a separate entity to the x360/ps3. I'm sure it will do better than the GC though, especially with its focus more on casual gamers.

I know a guy in the press that has tried it with the retro fitted metriod prime, he said it works amazingly well

anyway guys, check the eurogamer front page, there is much better article on the revolution than the ign writeup

I actually received my first "Official" Nintendo email yesterday regarding the Revolution.

I'll get one (of course) to compliment my PS3 and 360

I wonder if the Revo will be going head-to-head with the PS3 then. I mean the PS3 was meant to launch in July, but we all know there'll be a delay…
