UK GT4 and 1080i HI-DEF ???

Does anyone know if the UK version of GT4 supports 720p and 1080i HI-DEF.

Its in the Jap and USA versions, so hopefully they have kept it in the UK release.

Got the NTSC version and the 1080i output is nice (but for some reason not as sharp as the X-Box output on 1080i games). The graphics are also flawed with ghost cars going all stripey blue. My PJ outputs 1080i fine via the X-Box so I know it's not that causing the problem.

Not sure about the PAL version having 1080i but my guess is that it won't as they always seem to leave out the PAL areas when HD is concerned.

The game itself is average IMO and is let down by awful collision detection (you bounce off thin air or polythene strip barriers!) and dreadful AI. It's fun playing a mate just as GT3 was but essentially it's just a bigger and slightly nicer looking version of GT3 with a few gimmicks like Photo mode chucked in!

Worth getting still but i'd much rather play PGR2 and Forza is looking much better IMO. Also GTR on the PC is supposed to be amazing, although very hard & realistic!

Yes the wheels look superb (with their 900 degree steering) and should add a lot to the experience!

Hi guys, how do you get HD output from a PS2? I only just got one and havent even had time to try it out yet. Really looking forward to GT4.
Is there a HD kit like the xbox one?

Yes theres a component AV kit thats available on ebay for £6 (just search for "PS2 component").

Ill be buying one.. I think the UK GT4 Prologue had an option for 1080i so I cant see Sony removing the full versions 1080i option..

I dont think the high def feature will be available on the Pal version. I dont think any Pal PS2 titles support it.

The PS2 doesn't have a HD kit - you can get HD through a standard component lead. Quite a few PS2 games support 480p and a few support 1080i (ESPN Footie & GT4). For a list of HD games check here

Yeah the picture is a similar improvement over RGB as you get between X-Box RGB to 480p. I don't see why the Pal versions wouldn't support it as they would have to produce another no Prog scan version of the game to make them not support it and that would cost more.

Not sure why, which Sony PJ do you have? Does it say in the instructions that it supports 1080i (or 1125i which I think is the PAL alternative). My Epson displays the NTSC high def resolutions but the OSD shows them as PAL figures so that 480p (whilst output as 480p) is displayed in the OSD as 525p. If no prog scan is being output then it shows as 525i.

So I take it you have the PS2 connected via component. If that is the case then all you need to do is go into the screen options (there are two widescreen TV's one with colour stripes & one without - select the without one) and there is a choice of 480p or 1080i as your resolutions.

I was referring to the screen settings in GT4 not the PJ itself. What happens when you select 1080i in GT4's screen settings? Are you saying that you've tried setting the game or the PJ to 1080i?

Your PJ will only show a 1080i image if the PS2/game is outputting one so select it in the GT4 screen settings bit (which is what I was referring to with the 2 TV's).

Sorry, yeah when I switch 1080i on the PS2 it goes blank. I cant remember the 2 TV's for interlaced and progressive in the PS2 menu, if I have left it on progressive that maybe why then??

1080i is a resolution of 1920x1080 which i image is why its not working for you, cos you monitor doesn't support it. Unless i'm wrong on this of course.

I think you might be wrong.. Ive got a Sharp LCD tv and that is 1366x768 and that runs 1080i.. so theres some downscaling that goes on somewhere there.. maybe the projector doesnt have downscaling functionality?

My PJ is 854 x 480 but can still display 720p & 1080i with downscaling. 720p is superb so it must have a pretty good scaler in it!

Not sure what I have done but switched it on that evening(after my post) and it clicked into 1080i no probs, and boy is it sharp . Sorry Duncan, from what I've read no the UK doesnt support Hi Def, although a prob that the Jap and NTSC version had with shuddering graphics in normal resolution I am told has been sorted for the PAL release.

You could always source a 2nd hand NTSC PS2 and a NTSC GT4, few being sold. I even saw one on the classifieds in the AV Forums!!

The 1080i isn't very good on GT4 anyway - you get horrible jaggies and the cars on the replays have blue lines through them. I have the NTSC version and to be nonest I find 480p better. Even 480p isn't vastly different from 480i on this game, which is odd as there's a massive difference in prog scan/Hi Def vs 480i thorugh my X-Box.

I wouldn't get to hung up on the poor hi def output, the jerkyness on replays of the NTSC version has apparantly been fixed in the PAL version so it's 6 of 1 half a dozen of the other really.
