I may be wrong, but I seem to recall reading about this earlier in the year, and rather than being the Revolution, or indeed a peripheral for the Cube, I think it is an update to the patent registered on the 64DD.

As I said, I could be misremembering things, but that's what I remember at the moment, without making any effort to look things up.

it sounds more like a product microsoft are developing. A multymedia handheld games system. A bit like the PSP, capable of Audio, video and games.
But if its a console, it could be part of the Xbox 2. Theres no reason why Nintendo and microsoft could be working together against sony!

Unlikely, as the patent was filed over 18 months ago; if there was a co-operation between the two, I'm sure more info would have emerged by now.

The fact that it says "an existing games system is modified" sugegsts that it's basically a gamecube version of something like the PSX. Nintendo probably just wished to get some patents on this "concept" machine they were devising so it could be produced depending on the success of the PSX. I would guess that all three companies have been looking seriously at the multimedia device for the living room, just that Sony have been the only company to be brave enough to produce a machine so far. By all accounts though the PSX hasn't been a success though so we may not see any of the other companies releasing such a machine in the near future.

It will be some sort of concept idea that they wished to patent incase they went ahead with the idea. As per my post above they will probably have been analysing the success (or lack of it) that the PSX enjoyed to see whether now was a good time to release such a product.

One thing that is for certain is that it's not a next gen console (like the revolution) as it clearly states that it's based on an existing modified games console, in the same way that the PSX is a modified PS2.
