X-box live

Hi guys. I have heard that you can connect to x-box live wirelessly. Is this a good idea? And is it any slower than a direct connection?

Cheers guys.

It is no slower than a direct connection as long as the signal strength is good.

I am still waiting for my router to arrive, the good news is that a wireless router does not cost anymore really than a wired, and a wireless router usually comes with 4 ethernet ports anyway, so you can cable if you want.

The biggest cost unfortunately is the wireless network cards, which can be up to 40-50 quid a peice

Its no slower if you use decent kit. However Its not straight forward getting xbox live to work with wirelesss as it is not supported in the UK.

I had loads of problems getting the wireless bridge working.

There are loads of posts on this topic.

Certified but not supported in the UK. I.e if you have a problem and ring up xbox live tech support, they wont support this functionalty.

If you buy decent stuff like Linksys their tech support will help you get it working though.

Have just finished setting up our xbox via a couple of linksys wireless devices, namely a WAP54G (xbox connected to this) which is bridged (via wireless repeater mode option) to a WAG54G which connects to internet and also a couple of other PC's on the inbuilt 4port switch.

Not had a chance to test out performance as i don't yet have a live account (or games for live) but seems to work OK.

regards
Gary
