Is Project Gotham Racing 2 The Best Game Ever?... Yet.

Well in my opinion it is.

I don't think i've ever played a game and crashed into a barrier because i was marvelling at the light effects on a cobbled street or how amazing buildings look.

The sense of speed is incrediable. Playing "in the car" it is amazing, accelerating in the Enzo Ferrari, you can almost feel your cheek being swept back by the g-force.

Handling is also immensly accurate (or at least feels that way as i've yet to drive an Enzo) and where do I begin with the show-room mode?

This is simply the best game I have ever played in the last 18 years or so of gaming and I love the cone and speed camera challenges.

And I haven't even mentioned the 'LIVE' capabilities with downloadable content and online racing.

Absolutely 11/10.

GT4 is a better racer, but PGR2 is a lot of fun. I've lost interest while I play FFX-2 though.

Sensible World of Soccer is quite obviously the best game ever. Any counter-claims are entirely nonsensical.

PGR2 is fantastic though. I'd put it approximately 372nd in my all-time list*.

* I don't really have such a list.

GT4 Prologue is out in Japan, I think. It's basically a chargable demo as far as I can make out.

Project Gotham racing can be summed up in a simple mathmatical equation

PGR2 + Xlink + 6 Rsoles = A freakin Riot

or

PGR2 +XL + 6R =

Comparing NFS Underground on the Xbox and PS2 (have both) I can't see any way that GT4 can come close to PGR2 unless it has an Xbox version. Try playing GT3 after PGR2....uh...nah.

Off to have a go at them cone challenges right now. Feeling pumped man. Nearly got my Merc GTR too.

Aye, I've been playing GT4 Prologue. It's a big improvement on GT3 and has blown me away somewhat - surprising as I was not as amazed at GT3 as a lot people.

And the graphics are in many ways as good as PGR2, and with twice the framerate.

I also rate GT4 Prologue as the better racing game. Let's hope the full release doesn't balls things up.

Please don't continue buying EA games, it only encourages them.

The other thing that peeves me off about XBox racing games at the moment is the lack of a ANY good FF steering wheel.

I have the Logitsch ones for both PS2 and Cube already and they really are superb and add lots to the gaming experience.

Consideriing XB has some pretty decent racers it's about time we had one.

This section is about console gaming, not PC gaming. I have a PC and I play stuff like Call of Duty, CS etc on it but it's just too much aggro to hook it up to the big screen and the dolby digital. That's a whole other debate.

I assume also that GT4 will feature full online play facilities? I've yet to get round to hooking up my PS2 to the net as it seems there is no clear strategy that I can see.

If Sony aren't careful, XBL will kill the Playstation.

I doubt that steve.

PS2 have the console market by the neck.

I'd warrant the majority of console gamers don't even know what online play is.

The PS2 online is a joke, its really laggy, you can hardly play against any people, and isn't a patch on XBL.

I think the people that have to be careful are Nintendo.

They will die if they don't make their next console online, instead of going online in stealth mode with zero support like they have with the gc.

The GT series will always be 'better' than PGR2 because Sony tell everyone it will be.

Gotta say that Wipeout 2097 is the best racer I have ever played. Still never beaten, F-Zero GX comes fairly close, with GT1 being the most groundbreaking "real" car racing.

Never really been a big fan of the MSR/PGR racing series, lots of gloss I always found.

Come on!

I've had PGR2 since the NTSC release and the Jap GT4 Prologue since release too.

If GT4 Prologue is any indication of what we should expect from the full release it should easily better (the disappointing IMHO) PGR2.

Public opinion is a fickle thing. Where are Sinclair, Commodore, Acorn etc. now? If Sony start losing to MS in the console war, what's to stop them doing an about turn and just pulling out of consoles.

My point was based on the success of XBL. All my mates are converting to Xbox and those that aren't must feel a little left out as we talk about the laughs we had online.

Things do change. Things you would think impossible. 10 years ago, Labour were never going to get into power again.

I'm not saying this will happen, I'm just making a point that MS has based it's strategy aroung the net which, I think, is a good move. Sony need to respond with something special for PS3. I say this as the owner of Xbox, PS1 and PS2.

I wasn't a fan of MSR on the Dreamcast or the first PGR on the Xbox but I have to admit that PGR 2 is a fantastic game...

My top racer of all time still has to be Sega Rally on the Saturn (puts on flame repelling suit and runs for cover )

Regards,
Iain.

sega ralley is an absolute sublime classic so take off the flame suit , if they put Ferrari 355 Challenge online it would also be superb a fantastic single player game with loads of challenge
(played without any of the driver aids) . If GT4 can run decently online (If it ever comes out) , PES3 goes online and the other EA games go on ,line then Sony will clean up. Simply because of the massive installed user base. They are being a bit stupid in allowing Xbox to take the iniative online for which reason im not sure!! I am considering an Xbox due to its online capability as i would like to try out PGR2 and TS Tennis online. But to be honest once GT4 and PEs4 come out I would probably switch to them.

GT4 will feature online play but time will tell how it stacks up in practice. The only critisism I would have of PGR2 is the way they chop up tracks and use different bits of each one. It's fine if you have the time to memorize each one but in casual play, I'm expecting a flat out easy left and I get a hairpin right. Also, would like some more open tracks, one thing that is better in GT3. Racing at high speed through the mountains is better than through a city.

Still the handling in PGR2 is more realistic than GT3 and the look of the game is very slick. The GT4 screen shots I have seen look grainy as GT3 did (and sega 2002 on xbox). Maybe just because it's a still though so I'll reserve judgement until I have it.

Daytona and Ferrari F355 are great I agree.

F355 is especially good with the licensed dc ferrari steering wheel and pedals

MSR feels like a different game than PGR2 to me, and i still play both.

After playing PGR2 and then going round my mates to play colin mcrae 4 on ps2 i left feeling appauled.

I'm a graphics fascist though, and i couldn't stand playing it when it looks that bad compared to PGR2

now theres a racing game i forgot about : Ferrari F335 Challenge on the Dreamcast was a fantastic game (although quite difficult) - the DC version was the best console version wiping the floor with the ps2 version (my mate was well disappointed after playing the dc version then bought the ps2 one later..).
Also spent many an hour on MSR on DC which was also a top game.

Sega - how about an updated xbox version of F355 with xbox live?

played F355 on both DC and PS2 very similar imho and both superb. This is the game that separates the men from the boys when it comes to console driving games!!.

Glad to see other people think its a top game as well
