Surround Sound.....Finally

Kept hearing how good Rainbow Six 3's surround sound effects were so decided to go for it myself.
Lick of paint, new floor and a bit of new kit and here's the result.

Nice one Spikey me ol' mucker.
Put's my 36inch Panny to shame, and those lovely speakers must be pumping out some serious cries from the Gringo's on R6.

If I had that set-up I don't think me neighbours would be happy

Spikey you are so flash

Looks all very nice though good job on the floor as well.

are the rear speakers like that to get your head in between, slightly bigger than the R6 headset

Your rears look a littel close to your listening position!

I wouldn't fire them straight at each other either.

Cheers for all the replies guys.
It's down to you lot continually going on about how good the sound is in these games that I finally went for it.
It's a budget system but it does the trick.

I plan on moving the rears at some point Keith, XIII sounds fantastic - if a little loud

nice
BTW the optimum distance between the front two speakers should be the same as the distance you are away from the screen... if that makes sense?

so if you are 6ft away from the screen there should be a 6ft gap inbetween the front two speakers.

love them silver cones

Regrettably sold it a year or so back.
There is an N64 and an Atari Jaguar near the back of the room tho'

Malone,
You're right mate but I don't need it, I've got a bell in the room and a girlfriend with good hearing

Thanks for the advice NAI

Ur front speakers are too close to the wall and this will make the bass boomier and the treble less distinct.

Camera angle for the rears is a little deceptive. They're about 3-4 feet away which I'd say is fine.

Sampled the sound delights of Halo this afternoon
Not only does this game play fantastically but it sounds superb too. I was hearing things that I'd never heard before e.g. the voice placement of the Elite's, the little sound effects as you walk through areas and the bass - from the weapons and when your energy level gets down to one bar (which happens all to regularly).

Still getting to grips with how much the sound can enhance games.
Superb.

erm... cant remember. a Denon manual i think?

it makes sense. having the front speakers apart gives a nice field of sound. and if they are configured correctly they can still produce sound that sounds like its coming from the centre.

The THX spec says that the front left and right speakers should be placed at the extreme bottom left & right edge of the screen, with the respective left (of the left speaker) and right (of the right speaker) edge of each speaker level with the edge of the screen. Then measure the distance between the 2, divide by 2 and that's where the tweeter of the centre speaker should go...

I have just set up my cinema to play the x box, and can't play halo for more than 5 minutes without getting sever motion sickness.

is this simply due to the size of the screen? (8ft wide)
