Anxious To Get Started

Hi Playmates,

I’m not sure if I’ve put this in the right section, but here goes.

Please can someone point me in the right direction, as I’m a complete novice? I have just purchased an Xbox console and games pack this morning and were wondering how to acquire the best connections for sound and picture going through my HC System.

I always thought that Xbox could be digitally connected via fibre optic cable, but I can’t see any output for this? My Home Cinema System is as follows

TV Toshiba 36ZP38
Receiver Sony STRDB780
Video Panasonic NV-FJ710B
DVD Pioneer DV565A
Cable TV NTL Pace (Digital)
PS2 Silver Edition
Centre Jamo E3 CEN
Front Jamo E350
Rear Jamo ESUR
Sub Eltax Impact 8

I apologise if this type of thread has been asked before, but I’m sure someone somewhere out there can help me.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You will need to get either the Advanced SCART pack or Hi-Def (component) pack which have a digital optical connection on them. Without it you cannot get 5.1 DD out of the box.

Not sure about the Hi-Def pack though. Not yet seen it at any of the Game stores in leeds.

Most people have purchased the original Microsoft one from DVDBoxOffice(? - do a search of the forums for the correct place) as it's not sold in the UK

Does you TV have Component in? if so the Hi-Def kit is Component based, were'as the Advanced SCART is RGB (IIRC)

regards
Gary

The Gamester Professional A/V scart & fibre optic cable looks good.

I just ordered one for the bargain price of £9.99 from Comet... I only needed the scart plug, but the comet price included the fibre optic cable for less than than other places were selling just the scart!

Just had a look myself at Comet and they look good enough for me. For only a tenner, you can't go wrong.

Nice one Lex.

Whoosh....straight over my head some of these links that have been recommended by your good selves.

I thought I'd buy a lead, connect it and the way I go. Hours of fun for next few hours or so. Now I have to work out Hi Def leads or not? By the way, what are these numbers that some of you refer to, such as 780i 1080i and so on. What do they mean?

It's a good job I chose not to go to the shops today after all. LOL
