I only play HALO. Am I missing out?

I put Halo down for a few months.. - then, pick it up again, and that's it - i'm hooked once again.

I've completed it on Legendary - Co-Op.
I've completed it on Heroic - by myself.
I'm currently going through it again on my todd, Legendary.

But am I missing out on any good FPS out there?

I'm wary of buying games as quite often I'll buy one, but only play it for a few weeks.. - and that's it. On the shelf collecting dust.

I've been considering Rainbox Six 3.. - is that a comparable FPS??

Cheers.

Stick at it
The game is far better on this difficulty setting. Get past Trial and Retribution where you go back into the ship and are confronted by half a dozen or so invisible Elite's - you've then got it licked

This is still THE FPS in my opinion, until Halo 2 of course

Spike -

you mean Truth & Reconciliation?! ;-)

I know exactly where you mean mate. As I say, I've done Legendary via co-operative play, and T&R on your own, Legendary, is a hard level.

What makes it even more difficult after you get in the ship and get past the invisible sword carrying Elites, the rest of the level is a damn sight easier with a sniper. But there's no way you can keep hold of a sniper whilst fighting the invisible elites, so you have to put it down somewhere (and fast before they come out the doors) - then, how easy do you think finding the damn thing is after the complete mayhem that occurs and the whole floor has just about been carpet bombed?

And if you can't find it - what do you do.. - revert to saved and take on that checkpoint again!!!!????? :-D

I know the likes of Rainbow six 3 are no rivals to Halo.. - but is it still a good game in it's own right.. - or is really nothing out there that's worth putting on my xmas list!? :-)

Cheers

That bit on the T&R is the toughest bit.

Top tips are.

Drop the assault rifle on Legendary : its near useless.

Chuck grenades into the doorways just as they open: stick a plasma on a grunt and they will likely run back into their comrades! Try and stay somewhat central: the marines can get grenade happy!

The sniper is pretty good for the invisible elites but you have to get them on the first couple of shots , once they start running about you'll have a hell of a time hitting them at that range with the sniper.(listen for the chime before the doors open and chuck those grenades) Needlers are pretty handy against the elites on legendary. Just empty a clip into one and watch them fly! Pretty colours too!.

There is a medipack and a cloak at either end of the room.
The cloak I find is best used once all your guys have been taken out as the cov will concentrate all their attention on you ( on Legendary level all the marines do is give the cov something other than you to shoot at). The Elites still seems to find you pretty quick on Legendary even when cloaked.

Last but not least it helps on the T&R if you have good health when you start it ( its worth redoing the first part if you haven't) and having a sniper rifle with decent ammo and needler or plasma rifle. Full compliment of grenades helps too.

A full overload shot from the plasma pistol will take down an Elites shield followed by a high speed volley from the plasma rifle they are toast pretty quickly. You need to dispatch the bad guys speedily on this level , the longer they operate the more damage they do and you don't want to have more than 1 running around at a time.

sometimes its just luck

Woah. This makes me realise I've gotta go back and play Halo again. Only ever completed it on the simplest level. Must complete again before halo 2 arrives.

Hehe. Halo is a completely different game on each level. Easy is just boring. Normal is easy and repetitive. Heroic is fun and challenging. Legendary is stressful and unpleasant

But back to your orginal question...

Rainbow 6 is really really good, and I recommend it. OK, it's not as good as Halo, but it's pretty close and it's a nice change of pace. Apparently it's great on Live, but I've only played it single player and still rate it very highly. IMO, it's the XBox's 3rd best game.

2nd best is Project Gotham Racing 2, which is ace.

So I would certainly say that you're missing out on some serious gaming goodness

I know, I know, but I was a console newbie when I got it (not just XBox) so needed something to get me going. Then all the other games came out and I just never seemed to go back to it.

Have to also admit that I've never played it on the big screen (pj) either. Shows how long ago I did play it as it was on my old 33" CRT 4:3 TV. I've had a plasma and pj for well over 12 months now.

Ooh, I feel a Halo urge coming on If I can find the time outside playing PGR2 and RS3

Put it on Legendary and prepare to play a completely different game. I think it's fair to say that most people who play Halo find it an altogether more enjoyable experience on Legendary.

Oh, and get a mate round to play it with you. Co-op Halo on Legendary is as good as it gets.

BTW, when you want a break from Halo you really should get yourself copies of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Top Spin, and Project Gotham Racing 2.

You've been told wrong then. It's the best tennis game ever, and one of the best games released this year (on any format).

Ah, now I see the source of the malaise. You need to purge yourself of job/girlfriend/social life etc before you will be free of it and can continue gaming in peace.

Thanks for that. Think i'll be getting RS3.

Had a quick flick of mates Edge magazine -- it's rated RS3 a 6/10 and PGR2 7/10. Which, from what i've heard of both, sounds a bit harsh... (havent read the full review yet...).

I would have probably put them at around 8 or 9 on the basis that nothing is ever perfect. (But these two are pretty damn close)

Also picked up Manhunt....get bored very quickly with this I suspect.

Can only agree on whats being said about Halo it really is a different game on each level .

When I completed on Legendary I felt the most satisfied especially to see the ending BUT I had easily the most fun on Heroic thats the level that really made it my fav game of all time .

still deciding about XIII cant make my mind up yet weather to get it .

I dont like to much creeping about like Splinter Cell

There is not too much creeping about and its not as finickity as splinter cell.
Stealth so far means using quieter weapons and sniping .
(how stealthy is it to pick up a chair and deck someone with it????)

I'm going to go against the grain here and say Halo isn't entirely the 'coded by god himself' game it's cracked up to be.. it would be if they had finished it!! Some of the later levels are appalling and no more than a chore to complete. I also think the weapons are dull in comparison to say R6, plus only a handful of enemies.

It is a fantastic game but for me it was totally let down by the incompleteness of it. I believe Penny Arcade said it best when they said they would rather pound rusty nails through their d*cks than do some of the levels in Halo (the library horrid!!)

If Halo 2 improves on these then I will be the first to crown it the messiah of gaming.
