Way to go?

OK, Firstly I must apologise for this being a 'which console' question

However, I have specific requirements which I've not been able to answer elsewhere, so I'm trying here!

I already have a PC on which I play a lot of straegy games, and a few driving games. However, I've also recently bought a projector for my home cinema system, and I'm tempted by the thought of a decent driving game 8 feet wide!

The PC is upstaris in the study, and I don't want to drag it downstairs (where the cinema is ) just for a few games. Which leaves me with a console.

And that's my question - which console is best for (primarily) driving games on a projector size screen? I'm more concerned with the games available, picture quality, sound quality than any loyalty to a particular brand. If it can do component/RGB output and 5.1 surround sound, so much the better! I'm not interested in any online gaming.

Thanks guys

Xbox or PS-2. Xbox has DD5.1 and they both have a lot of decent racers.

XBox can also output high-def and progressive scan, reducing the need for scaling the image and de-interlacing.

A chipped xbox using a hi-def av pack in ntsc mode is the perfect choice, i run mine through an ae100 via component and the picture is fantastic.

Project Gotham Racer 2 is truly beautiful plastered across the wall!

and now that gta3 and gta3 vice city are now on the xbox who needs a ps2? (yes i am a bit of fanboy but I do own a ps2 and it's been in its box for a long time!)

Sounds like Xbox is the front-runner...thanks guys :-)

Jumpt_upmunky, where's the best place to get a chipped Xbox then? I've seen www.premodded.com but are there any other recommended places?

new PS2 has Prog scan and is a sexy silver has plenty of cheap games and some very good driving ones. What PJ are you using?
GC is the cheapest option but driving gains are limited.

PJ is a sharp xv-z91e (DLP). When you say 'new PS2' you mean the one that's out now? Does it need to be modded for that?

IMHO the Xbox controller is perfect for racing games.

It has two rear analogue triggers placed over your index fingers which make racing games play a lot better than they do on PS2. Obviously not the case however if you have a steering wheel.
