Hi Steve, yes the fact that it's a German TV is the problem. They use PAL B/G over there, which carries the audio on a different frequency (we use PAL-I here).
There's two options (I'll start with the easiest). If the set has a SCART or A/V input, you can purchase the necessary cable(s) for your console(s) and connect it up that way. This will bypass the TV's tuner and you'll get the audio no problem (and a better picture).
The second option relates to changing the audio frequency. If the set is relatively modern (with on-screen display) it may be possible to change the frequency over in a hidden engineers menu (before doing so, check the normal setup menu for any mention of localization/ audio/ tuner options etc).
Try asking for the info and procedure
here (quote TV's full model number). If not, then it may not be feasible as it will require hardware modification.
