Had enough of Nintendo!!!

To sum up the story, here is a copy of the email I just sent Nintendo:

Good afternoon

I have been a loyal fan of Nintendo since I received a NES many years ago. My loyalty survived the days of poor PAL conversions, over priced games, late releases and a general disregard for European gamers. Despite all this, my loyalty for Nintendo as an innovational and original company remained strong.

However, today this ends. Whilst browsing the Stars Catalogue, for the first time I found an item that I wished to purchase. Only to find I do not have enough stars, as yesterday, over half of them were wiped away (expired). Despite the numerous emails I receive telling me of new Nintendo products, I was not once notified about the imminent expiration of the majority of my points. All those lonely nights, scratching away at panels and inputting overly complex codes has gone to waste!

I know there's no point in writing this, and I know it's not your fault, but it provided an alternative to making a loud noise in the office and looking very strange.

Thank you for your time

I lost 7,000.

Well I say lost, I probably never would have used them...

Re: Had enough of Nintendo!!!

I lost over 4000, it's so annoying, the day I finally find something I want (and it was available) It's like deliberately off the loyal customers (onyl a loyal Nintendo fan would have points from so long ago)

Re: Had enough of Nintendo!!!

I always planned on buying Wii points with them, but they never, ever seem to have them in stock.

I did check today though, with my pitiful stars count - they have 100 points cards for sale, think it was about 400 stars a pop. Better than nothing, and I plan on spending all my points on these before Nintendo steals the lot!

Re: Had enough of Nintendo!!!

Same thing happened to me, then I got an e-mail telling me that I'd been warned about it (I hadn't) and that it was stars that were more than 24 months old (none of them were). Thieving gits!

Hmmm, I smell a petition of sorts (but I'm too useless to start one up )

I had the same, an email telling me they had expired and that I had been warned, I'm sure I didn't receive any such warning email. Not too bothered personally though as there was never anything(in stock) worth using them on(couldn't link them to points as my stars were UK ones & I have a US Wii).

Re: Had enough of Nintendo!!!

Same here, really ******ed off!!!

They took 5250 stars from me, leaving 2270 in my account. I have never had any warning until I received the email today telling me they had cocked up with the email they sent the other day showing my points total. They state that I was sent an email on 3rd of June to remind me that points older than 24 months would expire, however I was in the USA at the time and have all my emails still on my server and I never received one!

I've also noticed this in their terms "If you subscribe to the Nintendo Newsletter, you will be informed about your current Stars Balance and how many Stars will be deleted in the next four weeks. There will be a monthly clearing of all Stars earned after the introduction of the new Terms and Conditions which are older than 24 months."

So surely they should have sent me an email stating how many stars would be taken from my account? Suffice to say they didn't. I think the whole thing stinks, why make them expire??

Re: Had enough of Nintendo!!!

Nintendo of America > Nintendo of Europe

Buy yourself a US Wii just like me and Tetlee, you won't look back! (And you'll probably get to play Animal Crossing before 2010)

Re: Had enough of Nintendo!!!

I feel robbed!
I just logged on and for once 400 Stars were available, except Nintendo have taken over 5000 points from me. Really annoyed me as I too, have had no notification. I just sent them an email telling them how unhappy I am with the situation but I'm not expecting a reply let alone anything else.

The whole Stars thing is a waste of time anyway, i've been collecting Star points since the Gamecube and as I'm not interested in a 'Zelda mobile ring tone' or a 'MarioKart Wallpaper' the points have just sat there and accumilated. I think this has happened to a lot of people and Nintendo UK have decided we have too many Stars to convert to Points and decided to say they have 'expired' thus saving them from giving out tons of WiiPoints for nothing! A great reward for being a loyal Nintendo customers for years!!!

Re: Had enough of Nintendo!!!

Sorry to sound so uncaring, but Nintendo changed the terms and conditions of Club Nintendo membership before their site revamp and they clearly and publicly announced the change of terms. They then sent an email to every registered email address with a full copy of the new T&Cs, which are readily available on their site, the relevant section I've quoted below.

Quote:
Number of Stars that can be earned and expiration of Stars

The maximum amount of Stars you can earn in total may be limited by Nintendo with a notice period of 1 week. This does not apply to Stars you have already earned at the moment of notice.

The Stars expire 24 months after they have been earned, so that unredeemed Stars which are older than 24 months will be deleted from your account. Stars you have earned before the introduction of the new Terms and Conditions expire 12 months after the introduction of the new Terms and Conditions, which will not occur until June 1, 2008.

If you subscribe to the Nintendo Newsletter, you will be informed about your current Stars Balance and how many Stars will be deleted in the next four weeks. There will be a monthly clearing of all Stars earned after the introduction of the new Terms and Conditions which are older than 24 months.
No, I'm not particularly happy about it either but reading the small print and knowing the terms means that I have very few stars to exchange and a box full of VIP codes that I will enter when I want to trade them for a new game / item.

Re: Had enough of Nintendo!!!

Yes were warned, but the thing is there was never enough Wii points available to spend all my stars before Nintendo robbed them. Once they had been robbed though, there was loads of Wii points to buy, funny that
Absolutley pathetic you couldn't just do a straight swap.

In my anger I bought my daughter an R4
