Re: Snes

I loved my snes and I think it's one of the best consoles ive owned especially for all the fantastic RPG's! I don't know about rather playing it than my Wii though because ive got the best of both worlds! I get to play Mario Galaxy etc and when ive had enough of that I can go on the virtual console and play what ever snes games ive purchased!

Re: Snes

Cracking machine, loved donkey kong country 1,2 and 3 and played them all for hours trying to get every last bonus medal. Loved the marios, yoshis island, ghouls & ghosts and sf2, killer instinct also got some serious hammer.

On the rpg front i nailed illusion of time, secret of mana, zelda, actraiser amongst others and my personal favourite terranigma, which i played through about three times.

I think it comes down to what they were willing to put in, back in the day when developers couldn't rely on fantastic graphics to sell a game they had to work harder on the actual gameplay, donkey kong country 2 and 3 already had state of the art graphics for their time so instead had a dearth of secret bonuses to collect and a complete new island became available if you got them all.

The snes still is a brilliant machine, hence the amount of emulators available for it, it's just been surpassed in the graphical stakes, although the step up from gamecube to wii graphically is rather insignificant IMO

Exactly as above, the SNES was without a doubt one of the best consoles I've ever owned, it's up in the loft of my flat somewhere and you can be sure that after years of abuse it would still work if I were there to dig it out.

With the Wii Virtual Console now though there's little reason to miss the old greyish box, unless you still own a ton of SNES original games then it's far easier(not to mention cheaper) to re-build your collection of classics from the Wii VC.

Now if Nintendo would just hurry up and release SNES MarioKart on there

Re: Snes

I was in the loft last night looking for stuff and came across my old SNES that must have been up there for around ten years now. My kids got a wii last year and a DS recently and are Nintendo mad now, especially anything Mario orientated. Anyway, I got everything out the box and there was no power lead . I cannot imagine not saving this so went back up in the loft and found it, plugged it all in upstairs then had to prize my 3 year old off Mario & Yoshi at bed time.

Despite having all the modern stuff they're still happy to play the SNES games just because it's Mario and Nintendo.

I'm looking forward to a bit of a Street Fighter 2 session tonight as well

Re: Snes

Mystic Quest is a fantastic game on SNES, I think it was labelled as Final Fantasy 1 in the US. Ibougt my snes of the 'bay only within the last few years and its awesome. I don't have all that many games for it but I only buy mint condition boxed games lol

Re: Snes

The SNES takes me back to my childhood and the classic days of 2D gaming. Partly from the quality of the games on the console, and the nostalgia factor, I've got a bit of a soft spot for that era. Takes me back to a time when I got excited about gaming rather than the old codger's cynicism I've got now .

The Virtual Console is a welcome feature of the next gen for me.

Re: Snes

The SNES was my first games console and by far the best. I loved every second of playing it and have downloaded about 15 games on the VC for it! IT makes me smile that the classic controller is shaped like a SNES pad. What really gets me though is how I completed these games as a kid and today as a seasoned gamer I have no chance! Shows how easy gaming has become nowadays!

Re: Snes

Excellent post, below is my take.

SNES is no doubt the best gaming console I have ever played. It was almost 13 years ago when got my hands on it. Used to cover it in plastic sheets, clean it completely, cleaned all the cartridges frequently

The first one which I got was FINAL FIGHT 2. I had only one cartridge at that moment (as it was expensive to buy new ones) so had to trade it with my friends to play others. But eventually got others as well. Below are the games which I played. I hope I'm able to recall all of them:

- Final Fight 2
- Mystic Quest
- Killer Instinct
- Jurassic Park 1 & 2
- Street Fighter Series
- Ranma 1/2
- International Super Star Soccer
- Super Battle Tank 2
- Super Metroid
- Zelda
- Super Mario Bros
- Secrets of Evermore
- Donkey Kong 1 & 2
- Chrono Trigger
- Final Fantasy 7 (Jap version)
- Fighter's History
- Wrestle Mania
- RAW

I think more? I don't remember.

Anyways, I still miss those days and those games. I also had Game Boy with various titles.

But unfortunately I sold my SNES for a Panasonic 3DO.

Cheers

that must rank as one of the worst exchanges in the history of gaming.
