Cant answer your second question, but the DS Lite has a brighter clearer screen than the original DS so it is worth the upgrade just for that imo.

Up to you mate. I just know the Lite compared to the original DS has a better, brighter screen and also looks and feels better in your hand. Less like a toy if you know what I mean. It might be worth putting your DS up for auction on ebay. They are still going for good money. Hope this helps.

Thanks well my m8 had a 7year old son and was asking for a Nintendo Ds and a Wii but my m8 got hold off a Wii for the normal RRP price but he could not fined £110 to get him a Ds as well. But as I can get a Ds lite for £80 I thought ill help him out and let him have my old Ds for £55 with FIFA 06.

It's completely down to personal opinion really mate, I prefer white but would be happy with either, both look smart.

There was a thread a while back pondering on this question..

Black or White DS

I was in the same boat, and just decided to buy a DS-Lite to replace my old DS and frankly, the difference is night and day.

On the down side, the new version is a little too small for my hands.. When playing games with the buttons its not too bad.. But one 'touch screen' based games (i.e Picross) I find that there is nothing to hold onto... But I am sure I will get used to it.

I am also not entirly happy with the slight yellow screen on the touch screen.. But this is a known 'problem' and again, I will get used to it.

But on the plus side.. First of all the Sound.. Its amazing.. They must have used some digital trickery as the sound appears to come from several feet to the left and right of the unit.. The effect gives a really 'wide' sound stage and is very impressive.

On the screen front, the obvious thing is the brightness.. Its unbelievable how much brighter the screen is.. On my old DS, there were games that I couldn't even see.. Dementia springs to mind.. Its a 'dark' game like "Silent Hill" but I simply couldn't see what was going on.. But on the DS-Lite, its bright and MUCH more visible.

But the most impressive thing for me, is how sensitive the touch screen is.. There are First Person games which use the Touch screen to look around (Metroid, Call of Duty, etc) and they were impossible with the old DS.. You either had to press the screen really hard, or use a stylus.. Pressing the screen hard didn't work, as you couldn't move/look around fluidly.. Using the Stylus also didn't work, as you had to use the buttons too.. On the DS-Lite, the screen responds to the lightest touch!

In conclusion, this is a no brainer.. If you can sell your old one, do it and get a Lite.. The upgrade will only cost £20-£50 (depending on how much you get for your old one, and how cheap you can find a Lite).. I hope this helps

Good luck

Jon

Re: Should I sell my Ds and get a Ds lite?.

Hi all I got a Ds lite today. Looks very nice and am loving it. I sold my old Ds lite to my m8 for his 7 year old for xmas. I gave him FIFA 06 with it as well I was suppose to give him Resident Evil as well but we all know its a very scary game (even on the Ds). So we had a talk and he told me to keep it or sell it and fined a good game for a 7 year old. The only small problem with it I have is that you know the D-pad its more hard to use than the old Ds. Like for some reason on Resident Evil its hard for me to turn corners on the Ds lite than the normal Ds.

But again not much of a problem anyhow any one know where I can get a cheap Ds game (£5 one lol) to give to him so he will have 2 games for xmas?

Also maybe some cheap GBA games as well as there compatible with the Ds lite rite?

Also thanks Jon Weaver for that little review on the Ds lite.
