Gamecube display not appearing on LCD TV through S-Video

HI Guys

Being a noob I apologize if this has been spoken about but i browsed the pages and couldn't see anything relating to it. I also apologize if I'm posting in the wrong section but i figured that it is Nintendo system related so...

I just borrowed a Gamecude from a mate to play Twilight Princess on. the Gamecube only had the standard AV cables so i went and bought an S-video cable for the connection. My television is an 81cm LCD.

Here's the issue. If i just plug in the red, white and yellow plugs the picture appears as it should. AS soon as I plug in the S-Video plug the screen goes blue and i receive the no signal message. AS soon as i unplug the s-video plug the picture comes back. I have also removed the red, white and yellow plugs and just left the s-video plug in but it still comes up with no signal.

I have tried plugging into both my DVD recorder and straight into the television but the same thing happens. Is there a setting on the Gamecude that needs changing?

I usually only play PC games so I'm a bit new when it comes to console connections. Has anyone got any ideas why this would happen?

Re: Gamecube display not appearing on LCD TV through S-Video

Hi The_Chop & welcome to the forums.

I'm pretty sure that PAL Gamecubes don't support S-Video cable connection, in the same way NTSC Gamecubes don't support RGB Scart.

As you're no doubt using a UK PAL console then I think it's just a case of an incompatible cable. I would suggest getting hold of an RGB Scart cable(providing you have a spare Scart socket in the back of your tv), should solve your problem and is also superior to S-Video in terms of picture quality

Hope that helps.

A bit debatable if its superior on an LCD, as some LCDs produce great pictures by s-video which is only one less wire than component (our US Nintendo 64 being a good example) theres a lot of tricks going on, we havnt even bothered buying a Wii component cable.
