| OpCapita seeking to sell on Comet Expected to make profit on £2 purchase price
The equity firm that purchased Comet for just £2, less than 12 months ago, is reportedly seeking bids from interested parties for its purchase; presumably at a slightly higher ticket price and possibly with the option of an expensive 5 years after sales support warranty. OpCapita has apparently already received a number of bids, according to the BBC.
Currently Comet has 240 retail stores around the UK and recruited the former chief executive of Dixons, John Clare, after OpCapita's acquisition last November.
At the time Clare was bullish about the future for Comet but sales during the critical Christmas 2011 period fell well below expectations and fell much more than that of their biggest rivals, Dixons and Argos, over the period.
It may or may not be the case that bids start at £2.50.
