Will it be the turning point for 3D?
Now, we don't wish to denigrate the work the BBC are doing with the Olympics, in fact we think it's fantastic with the pioneering 8K coverage, apps and 24 live streams being made available but we have seen quite a lot of talk in the industry that seems to think London 2012 will be a turning point for 3D TV.
The, just released, full schedule for the BBC 3D coverage paints a somewhat different story, with only one live competitive event - the Men's 100m Final - featured.
The schedule is as follows:
27th July 2012
Olympic Opening Ceremony
20:50 – 00:00 (approximately)
5th August 2012
Men's 100 metre final
20:30 – 22:00
12th August 2012
Olympic Games review
20.00 – 21.00
12th August 2012
Olympic Closing Ceremony
21:00 – 00:30 (approximately)
Admittedly, other broadcasters with dedicated channels, for example Eurosport 3D, will bolster the amount of 3D coverage but is that going to be enough to drive the public's interest?
