mapped drives

mapped drives

my one pc auto discovers and auto creates a "link?" to the drive but the other computer i have to manually add the drive. why?
both are xp home sp2 machines

XP? Isn't there a setting for automatic network discovery?

tried that it was checked but further looking it seems this machine will not entertain adding of a mapped (ftp server) the instant i click create i just get "the folder you entered appears to be invalid" which i know it isn't as the other machine picks it up no problem. both machines are on the same network,group,subnet etc

you could create a small batch file to do it when you log on?

in XP its called uPNP, depends on a few things ie both machines and router set up for it and the firewalls configured correctly
