I must be missing something because I can't find an answer in parts 1, 2 or 3 of the thread or on other threads I've looked at?
Lots of talk about flashing prior to a build but not on the effect after the whole thing's been setup.
Basically I don't want to flash the BIOS and then see the data disappear as it's using a different mode or something. Hope you get what I mean. Thx.

I know what you mean, but unfortunately I don't know the answer.
That's why I suggested to ask the same question there, or even in a win-related topic.

I flashed my existing Win7 system using the previously available modded BIOS i.e. not the one in this thread. Then in the BIOS I changed the Onchip SATA config "SATA IDE combined mode" from Enabled to Disabled.
All the drives then displayed as SATA on boot-up, but Windows failed to load with "Error loading OS" - I guess because it needs different drivers. I tried running Windows Startup Repair but it wasn't able to fix the issue. I'm sure there's a way of solving this, but I recall someone saying that the speed difference was negligible so I never pursued it.

There's a fix to get around it with windows to avoid the BSOD, I don't know about in other OSes though.

This is interesting, my fan is silent and other's have silent fans too, however there are some reports of loud fans as well!

I can enable a menu option to turn off Fan control, but I think that may run it at full speed.. If that is the case you might be able to fit a Fan with it's own speed control or a slower fan.

The stock fan is pretty quiet already (but def not silent) so any loud ones might be faulty.

Any form of extra fan control would be very useful though. There's some info on replacing the main fan at HP Proliant MicroServer | silentpcreview.com.

In any case, you can switch the BIOS option back to IDE (or even reflash the original BIOS).

Did the tip from Guru3D work?

If you already have the other hard drives in AHCI mode, then it should just work.

If not, you can read this here, if it helps:
How to install AMD RAID driver after Windows installation - Super User
(it is about installing RAID drivers after switching from AHCI mode to RAID, but switching from IDE to AHCI should work the same way, just use the proper driver)

Hi guys, just got my server still new to all this, do I just put this on the thumb drive and boot off it? Thanks.

Edit - Oops just seen there's a .txt file, will follow that!

Double edit - Not having any luck, does this work on 64-bit W7 install? I install the HP program, it tells me it's installed incorrectly, I run the USB tool thing and it formats it and seems to copy my download folder over to the thumb drive? :/

Tried again and it did over-write the file, but when I try to boot from it I get same error, a bunch of 'illegal partition table - drive 01+02+03 sector 0' and then command or filename not recognised.

Can anyone confirm that the HP bios+this bios patch are both doable on a 64-bit W7 install, as I'm getting nowhere, do I need a 32-bit installation to do it? Thanks.

Yes it works. I just did it on Windows 7 64 bit. (I left the HP BIOS image on it. For using the patched BIOS, one just has to replace the ROM file on the USB key)

I can send you the final image (if you know how to write it to an USB key).

It is 1.3 MB (ZIP file).
Where should I put it? (the forum allows only 100KB big ZIP files to be attached)

Can you write an image to a disk?
Windows or Linux?

Thanks!
Do you have more details about why AHCI/IDE setting is simplified now? Was it complicated before?
Or should I just see it myself?

Do you see any chance for faster boot/suspend now?

thanks for the mod!

Just wanted to clarify.

Can you update the BIOS, with WHS2011 already installed?

Or will flashing mess up existing drive configuration.

I am actually running the modded Russion BIOS, but wanted to flash to the version you have modded.

There's no more AHCI BIOS Installation.txt in the rar file. What are the instructions again?

Download the official bios update, create your usb with it and then replace this rom with the one on the usb. then boot your microserver with the usb attached and will autoflash it self

I updated (from the latest HP version, not the Russian version) with this version today with no problems. Had to change the boot order (moved the 250Gb drive with the OS into the optical bay), WHS2011 booted up with no problems for me.

I got mine up and running yesterday. This BIOS works fine with the Remote Access Card too, the new BIOS does change your boot devices priority so you have to change it back.

Thanks for making it! No idea why HP don't do something like that themselves.

Just tried the original link and its working for me.
You're quite right, it looks like mediafire.com isn't resolving at all for me! Cheers for your help anyway.

Ok, I'll delete my link anyway to avoid any confusion.

If you pm me your email address I'll try and send it you.

Having a few issues getting Windows 2008 Server to recognise my drive plugged into the eSATA port. It shows as a disk drive in the BIOS so I assume all is well but Windows Setup only sees the 4 drives on the RAID card. What am I doing wrong?
