Desperate - Internet Connection Problem

I'm hoping one of you PC and networking gurus can help me desperately.

A bit of background to help. We currently have a Thomson wireless router in the kitchen adjacent a small TV. We have our internet with Tiscali, who advised that they gave us Tiscali TV as part of the package and consequently a guy came an setup the router next to the TV in the kitchen. (Tiscali TV is cr*p). It has an ethernet connection to the TV. This has been up and running for 12 months+. I have a PS3, Wii and a desktop PC (the main PC, via a wireless adapter) and a laptop (kitchen, built-in wireless) connected wirelessly through the router OK.

My wife is about to start a new job where she needs a wired internet connection via the router, plus a wired phone. We've plugged the phone in yesterday, on the phone line we have in the office upstairs, where the desktop PC is. No problems. Now I thought that if I just unplugged the wireless router, plugged it in upstairs to the telephone line we have an then installed an ehternet cable between the back of the desktop and the router it would work fine. I think I was naive. I could not get a connection to the internet, despite trying the fault finding diagnostic through Vista.

So I decided to reconnect the router back where it was in the kitchen, which I did. I re-installed the wireless adapter in the desktop PC and yet it would not let me get on the internet. Outlook mysteriously downloaded 3 emails yet I was unable to get on the intenet via Explorer. It just comes up with an offline webpage telling me that the Thomson router gateway is not open (with a Tiscali sign in the top RH corner). The PS3, Wii and laptop (hence this post) can all onnect to the internet via the router as normal.

We are getting a bit fraught and desperate to get it set up as my wife starts her new job next wek, so any help is gratefully received. I go away with work for 4 weeks tomorrow to add insult to injury. If anyone can help by PM'ing or posting on here, we will gladly thank them. I will relay any instructions to the wife upstairs and will be on here most of tonight.

Thanks.
