Netgear installation guide

I'm trying to install a (used) Netgear DG834G for use with a MacBook. My ISP is Freedom to Surf. I don't have an install disk although the guy who sold me the router sent an AOL broadband disk as I suspect he got the router as part of his deal.

Does anyone know where I can find an installation guide/manual for the router?

Re: Netgear installation guide

Always try the obvious place first, they say ....thank you Andy.

Unfortunately my MacBook answer isn't there, at least not at first sight, but I'll keep on looking.

Re: Netgear installation guide

I had that model and it was easy to setup up with my Mac network. I never used a setup disc.

If I remember all I did was hook it up, open a browser and connect to the router by typing http://192.168.0.1 and use the default login/password (admin/password) to enter the browser config screen where you can enter your ISP provided settings (if needed)

ref manual PDF here: http://kbserver.netgear.com/pdf/dg834_g_b_manual_v2.pdf

Nice review/setup guide here: thinkbroadband :: Netgear DG834 ADSL Modem / Router Review

Hope that helps some.

Re: Netgear installation guide

I useful tip (I think) is to do a factory reset and then let the box detect the network settings because then all you need to do is enter User Name/Password.

I always set them up this way for customers because the box won't make transcription mistakes as a human might and so will get the settings right every time.
