Damaged guitar - advice?

Was just nipping round the corner to my mates flat with my Harley Benton ES335 [Gibson] replica. Didn't see the need to be fussing around with my gig-bag as it was literally a minutes' walk away, so just slung the thing over my shoulder by the strap. Of course the strap came loose and my beloved guitar fell straight from my back and landed headstock-first onto the hard concrete floor. ... Did some big damage in fact. Took a horrible chip out of the headstock and it's just killing me now! (See picture) I'm absolutely gutted. I really don't know what to do! With it being a solid-body guitar, it's not at all possible to just go replacing various bits and pieces! Any ideas as to how to go about repairing the guitar or at least making the damage less noticeable? I may not find the guidance I need, but AVF usually has the answers!

Re: Damaged guitar - advice?

Ouch sorry to hear this. Smooth it down with sandpaper and get some stain/varnish. It will never look the same but it wouldn't be too bad. If you really want to go the extra mile a furniture restorer may be able to to a better job.

I'm not expert on guitars but aren't a few "scars of war" considered desirable? Say it was once owned by Noel and the damage was apparently done when he threw it at Liam.

As long as tonally it hasn't been affected then I wouldn't beat yourself up about it.

Thanks man I appreciate that. I have considered the sandpaper/varnish solution, I guess I just wanted to moan about it If I was as good as Noel on the guitar, I could probably justify the scars! Luckily there hasn't been any tonal damage, so perhaps there is still oppurtunity for me to improve!

Re: Damaged guitar - advice?

Rule 1
Never leave the house with a guitar unless it's in a bag/case.

Rule 2
Never use a strap without strap locks.

File/sand it roughly flat & whack some gaffa tape over it.

Is that an optical illusion or has the key snapped of the tuner?

Thanks for the advice. Think I'll get it sanded down when go back home in a few weeks time, then slap on some wood protecting resin to prevent splintering the wood anymore and then varnish. It's never going to be the same but guitars are always likely to take some scars in their lifetimes!
