From our proper video from the early 90's

Just borrowed the VHS and transferred it to my PC.

YouTube - Big Chill Skin Deep

YouTube - Big Chill - Run To Survive

Going to put the details in when I get them (like exact dates).

Is one of them you Stuart?!

Anyway, not really my kind of things as such but, as far as I'm concerned, it does what it does very well and should float many boats Some good guitar work in there too (which I can relate too)

I'm guessing Stuart is the drummer. It certainly looks like the Stuart Wright I saw in a recent AVForums.tv interview..... only with lots more hair!

I though both tracks were really great. I'm not a rock fan, but enjoyed them both.

Great performance, great production, and yes... great hair
Clearly a professional job.

Re: From our proper video from the early 90's

That is QUALITY!

Apart from loving the hair, I absolutely love the drum kit. Is that a real Simmons Stuart? Possibly a Simmons SD-9 or SDX?

Great songs - very "Europe" (of Final Countdown fame) etc.

Didn't realise you'd gone that far with drumming. Are you still in a band? Is the band still going?

Re: From our proper video from the early 90's

Yeah it's me on drums. For those who like the music, thanks
I had various electronic drum kits along the way though the SD-9 didn't last long and at the end I was using a Alesis D4 and an Akai S950 for the animal drum solo (animal as in elephant and sheep sounds).
The electronic kit was great because we had a reliable stadium sound every time and could set up and sound check in under 45 minutes. My technique was killed by the pads, though (remember they were just rubber and pretty unresponsive).

I still have the electronic kit, but I have a Sonor acoustic kit, now, which is much better to play, though I ony play it occasionally when I feel like a blast.

Thought I'd stumbled into the Steel Panther thread

We were gigging around the midlands early 90's playing a similarish style. Did you do many gigs? If so, where abouts?

Small world, I reckon we've gigged the same venues as you. Have you played the New Inn or Cottage of Content? I'm sure we've seen one of your posters when setting up

We were regulars at the New Inn and Pam let us play really loud compared to other bands.
The secret is not to do a sound check at 8:30 but go straight on at 9:45 and do a quick check before the first chord.
In fact we don't sound check anywhere because of that reason - at 8:30 the band sounds twice as loud than at 9:45 and Landlords will complain.
Only last week at a pub we have played 5 times a year for the last 9 years, we decided to do a soundcheck for the first time because they have now got their own PA which is exactly like ours so all I had to do was plug our mixer in.
The Landlord was going mad about the volume and I assured him it was our normal level because my hand held decibel meter proved it.
When we came off after the first spot he thanked me for turning it down

Back on track, Pam was paying £1000 a week in rental for the New Inn and ended up in debt.
Somebody else bought into it and decided to put Pam back in where she had Disturbin the Peace as her first night and we packed the place.
The new owners decided to put karaoke on instead, Pam left after her first night and now they get about 6 people in.

Re: From our proper video from the early 90's

Yeah, the New Inn was a cracking venue, had a couple of good nights there. We then heard it had dropped off the map and subsequently heard it had been resurrected, thanks for the update and background, shame it sounds like its no longer a live venue

I agree about the sound check versus actually playing to a crowd. It makes such a difference from playing to a set of bar stools and tables opposed to a room full of people. We do have a sound check when we first set up, but it always gets tweaked when we start playing properly.

Re: From our proper video from the early 90's

What was your band called when you played the New Inn?
I may have seen you because when I'm not gigging I used that pub as my local.

Re: From our proper video from the early 90's

We're Liquefy, this is not the band I referenced above that played in the early 90's, but is the band that played at the New Inn. We do play covers, not strictly all rock, but we put our spin on everything we do, people tend to remember us for wondering what the hell we'll play next We don't gig as much nowadays though.

Hmm, I wonder if that's the same Blacksmith Arms we are playing at?

I also sing & play guitar in this band - Mistreated
