Anyone play Classical Guitar?

Not talking about the type but talking about the style I want to start playing classical music like some sonatas from the great composers.

Where is best to begin, I taught myself rock guitar about 12 years ago and have been playing ever since but I am thinking of getting lessons from a pro so I can unlearn all the bad habits I taught myself over the years, anyone know of any classical tutors in London?

UK-Guitar-Teachers.com | The UK-wide directory of guitar and bass teachers. hope this helps and good luck.

Re: Anyone play Classical Guitar?

Hi,

You'll need to learn finger picking rather than picking (if you dont already). I've never been taught, so excuse the lack of technical language!

You're best bet if you want to teach yourself is to start with the following 3 (in this order) - Metallica "Nothing Else Matters"Eric Claptons "Signe", Eric Clapton "Classical Gas". While they're not classical, they will build the techniques you need. Moonlight Sonnata are quite daunting after the first 16 bars if you've never done finger picking before.

Kind regards, Russ

Re: Anyone play Classical Guitar?

I started on classical then went towards Flamenco which improved my finger picking no end, pick up a good book and give it a go first see if you get into it. Or, I recommend looking here http://nylonguitarist.com/ this guy is great and extremely helpful and free to sign up. Just remember that its a bit weird growing your nails longer on the right than the left to start with

Re: Anyone play Classical Guitar?

Have you ever practiced finger pickingŋ First you should buy a nylon stringer , then buy a book that covers the basics in detail, because you need to play correctly from the beginning or it will come back to bite you

I also started playing classical, itīs great, but then I started to play flamenco and itīs amazing. I donīt know if you fancy flamenco but itīs a blast to play:D

Re: Anyone play Classical Guitar?

i'd recommend checking out tommy paldanious, technically his style is fingerstyle... but it sounds classical, check him out on youtube, he's really good at teaching you how the song works.. once ya watch his vids you'll see what i mean.

its better to pay the Ģ30 something for 1 year subscription from his website, than it is to simply check out his utube tutorials tho.
