Re: What is your main instrument and for how long?

Guitar for me, mainly electric but I dabble in the acoustic side of things occasionally. I've been playing for about 5 and a half years. I don't have any major projects going on at the moment unforunately, I'm trying to pull off some grade 8 and above pieces for my A level performance later this year, I figured I'd get on top of it this time, especially considering my ambitious goal! There's a few bands which come and go, I'll float between them, play a few gigs and do a few solo things here and there, I performed fairly recently at an art exhibition, I wrote the 'soundtrack' that involved more than just the guitar though

What about you?

Guitar. For 20 years, though I stopped playing for many years. Split about 50/50 between acoustic and electric. My current 'projects' are finally learning to fingerpick and getting into recording. It's fun.

Re: What is your main instrument and for how long?

Acoustic guitar for about 37 years (fingerpicking style).
5 string banjo for last 4 years - play this much more often than guitar these days (3 finger Scruggs and melodic styles for bluegrass, old time and Celtic),

Re: What is your main instrument and for how long?

Been playing solidly for 15 years. Been in bands, released cds, toured, written and sold songs. Been in blues bands with people 35 years my senior and been in one of the heaviest bands on the planet, been in a duo playing acoustic with a female singer and all sorts in between.
These days I mainly do session stuff - anything from blues to pop to country to thrash to prog to acoustic folk - I will literally play on anything... I love the creative process in the studio... money aint bad too
Also dabbling in learning to sing and play at the same time - something I never tried for many years!
Ive been invited to a jam night tomorrow at a social club with guys who play in their 60s/70s and there is apparently this guy playing in his 80s. The amount of stuff you learn from all ages, abilities and styles is just priceless! I just look forward to learning more and more for years to come!

Re: What is your main instrument and for how long?

Guitar, both electric and acoustic. Been playing 10 years but only seriously the last 4. I also dabble with the bass guitar and mandolin.

I have a recording project, Caryatid, which can be found here:

Caryatid - ReverbNation

or

MacJams.com - Artist: PaddyNavinCaryatid

I've been recording for nearly 4 years. I write and produce all my own stuff.

Re: What is your main instrument and for how long?

Pianist here for 20+ years.
When I was 14 (long time ago now) I composed and performed a rag time piece for a school concert which apparently excited my music teacher at what was a top school (not that my academic ability at the time reflected my reason for being there ).

I didn't play much for years, but recently took up writing and producing orchestral music as a hobby.
Some of my work can be found here.

I'd love to do this for a living... but how the hell do you get noticed?

Thank you Jules, we are trying our best to provide quality training for her. Learning piano helped her a lot in many ways, that includes more focus in maths

Re: What is your main instrument and for how long?

I first started playing guitar when I was 8/9 years old, my first instrument was a cheap copy stratocaster, which I learn the guitar on, playing blues and rock'n'roll and then I brought a classical guitar and learnt classical & flamenco. Then later on in life I brought an Epiphone Les Paul Std, but then sold it when I had kids, worked full time and got interested in AV kit

I'm missing electric now so thinking of buying a guitar to learn more metal stuff and have fun experimenting with effects etc.. something like the Dean Razorback Explosion.

Re: What is your main instrument and for how long?

Drums for me. Got my first kit when I was 3. Promptly stamped down on the bass pedal, tore my shin open and Mum declared it wasn't safe.

30 odd years later I started again! No injuries this time, just lots of good times. Use a local drum tutor who has brought me on no end, also a fan of online lessons and instructional dvd's (have loads of them)

Really enjoy it. Wish I hadn't bust my set back in '73!

Re: What is your main instrument and for how long?

Professional violinist - played since starting aged 7 now 45 - had a ten year break but back into the swing of things.

Been a member of many fine orchestras, quartet and performed at many venues around the uk.

Currently, I play at weddings, funerals, christenings, parties, corporate and many other events. Classically trained but can adapt to any style for the occassion.

Self taught pianist as well but play the piano for pleasure these days. When not performing I teach the violin.

Cheers

Alan

Re: What is your main instrument and for how long?

I have 3 main instruments, and with various derivatives.

1. Harmonicas: all keys, all types for over 42 years. I'm a bluesman.

2. Guitars: acoustic, classical and electric. I play for about 40 years. I play my own compositions; progressive alternative, blues, jazz and folk. I also write songs.

3. Flutes: steel soprano, steel alto, all wood keys, plus flutes from all around the world, made from various woods and other materials. I've been playing flutes for about 40 years also. I did play a bit of clarinet and saxophone too.

* I play also the piano and the synthesizer (improvisation only).

Re: What is your main instrument and for how long?

I took up guitar at age 19, acoustic for first 2 years and then bought an electric. Totally self-taught.

Now at age of 46 I have been playing semi-pro for 21 years......still love it

My main guitar is a standard USA Fender Strat and I use a Peavey Classic 50 combo amp.

Bass here I have been playing for about 23 years and have been in a few bands. Gigged with Muse Feeder Crazy gods but never quite made it loved all the same. I just love writing recording and performing. Currently not in a band but I am hoping to get something together soon.

My weapon of choice is a Black 77 maple Fender Precision

Re: What is your main instrument and for how long?

Started guitar when I was about 19/20. I'm naturally left handed but the bloke who taught me the basics, taught me the right handed way. Been playing for over 35 years, acoustic mostly, but I do own an electric guitar as well. Never played in a group though.

Tried piano when I was younger as both my parents could play. But no matter which hand I put on the keyboard first, the other hand did exactly the same thing.

How I got my hands to move independently for guitar is beyond me.

Yup. Trumpet/Cornet. Worked up to grade 7 dist, decided I'd had enough whilst prepping for 8. That was 13 years ago. Still play now, but no where near enough - my lips/tongue can't hack it for too long and I struggle to reach much above the stave. Keep meaning to start practising proper again, cuz I do miss it.

How cool is that!

Although having done some more research (online shop browsing) my dream guitar is a custom left-hand version of the BC Rich Signature Kerry King Speed V, or Jackson King V
