headphones for guitar monitoring

hello my fellow musician chums.

i have been learning to play the guitar for a while now and i am making slow progress, mostly due to lack practice which is down to me but also the fact that mrs metropolis cringes at some of the bum notes i play.she is not the type to moan but i can tell she aint happy.i have sometimes used cans connected to the headphone outlet from my amp but they are a cheap no mark brand and are crap ( used them on my hi fi system "once" ) they sound crap and leave little bits of black vinyl on my ears, so they are about to have an accident and will need to be replaced.
i am looking for suggestions on a replacement, mostly for use connected to my amp, a marshall mg10 cd but dont mind paying a bit more if they ok for hi fi use,my budget is £100 max but would prefer to spend less if possible.

thanks in advance

paul

Re: headphones for guitar monitoring

Sometimes it's not entirely down to the phones: Sometimes the "headphones" output on gtr amps just sound rubbish. I have a amp head and both the phones & DI output sound truely dreadful.

The point being, that unlike hifi, the speaker enclosures in gtr amp rigs are sometimes deliberately "voiced" to affect the tone. My 4x12 for example, knocks out loads of high end leaving just the mids and all that lovely bass. The "tone" you use is also a factor (clean vs distorted for example.)

Sometimes you just have to accept that the phones output is a "compromise" and put up with it.
