Anyone know how to sort out cloudy varnish?

Hi all,

I have a Yamaha acoustic with a gloss finish that has turned cloudy over the past six months or so.

Anyone have any solutions other than complete stripping and refinishing?

Cheers,

Coop

How come its turned cloudy? have you left it in the sunshine or has it just not been cleaned post-gig ? Well everytime i get my local music dealer to serviced/retune/string my guitars, they always polish them up perfect. I would call your local shop and ask them what they use OR take it into them and leave it with em. I think a stripping it is a bit OTT, unless its beneath the surface

Re: Anyone know how to sort out cloudy varnish?

Apparently it is an issue with Yammy's from a few years back :-(

I'll take it to my local guitar shop and see what they can do.

Re: Anyone know how to sort out cloudy varnish?

They recommeded a Gibson cleaning set, which I bought and used.

It did nothing...

If you could ask your mate I'd be v grateful

It's a Yamaha APX-8A in dark brown/burst with a gloss finish.

I think the varnish has gone duff way under the surface...
