Green Day-21st Century Breakdown

Any Green Day fans out there got the new album yet???

i downloaded it on friday and played it to death already. personally, i really like it and can definatly recomend it to anyone

18 tracks in total,a couple of weak tracks but overall really enjoying it.

at the moment 8.5 out of 10.

stand out songs for me -

horseshoes and handgrenades ( a mosh pit classic, awesome!!)

21st century breakdown (jesus of suburbia-ish!)

east jesus nowhere (reminds me of adam and the ants)

21 guns.

be good to hear any opinions on this, roll on 31st october m.e.n arena!!

Re: Green Day-21st Century Breakdown

I must admit to only being a "fan" since American Idiot, but I acquired 21st Century Breakdown last week, have listened to it twice and really like it.

I've since acquired their back catalogue to ready myself for the gig in Belfast.

Re: Green Day-21st Century Breakdown

So what is it like?

I had it in my hand the other day but put it back.

I heard their new single on the radio the other day, sounded to me like it came off their previous album.. which I really disliked.. Is it all like that?

I prefer their early stuff... I doubt its anything like that though.

Re: Green Day-21st Century Breakdown

i had a quick listen, it's similar to the last album. i never listened to them before the last album, but i heard bits of it so checked out the album and thought it was really great, much more grown up than the previous stuff. the new album is more of the same, so if you liked the last one you will probably like this too. the foxbro hottubs cd was instantly forgettable though

Fair enough, I'll probably pick it up at some point.

I think my dislike of their previous album stems from hearing it constantly when I was in my previous job, no better way to ruin music than hearing it all the time.

It would be rude not to at least give it a go.

Re: Green Day-21st Century Breakdown

didn't like it one bit, crapper than American Idiot which did have 3 good songs on it. Have been(or was) a Green Day fan since 1994 when I first got Dookie, how I wish they would do an album like it again...

Re: Green Day-21st Century Breakdown

I just dont like the singers voice/sound recorded on this new album, and probably the last one... the rest of the album sounds ok come to think of it thats probably the main reason im not a big greenday fan. Although there are a few greenday song exceptions.

Re: Green Day-21st Century Breakdown

I much prefer their earlier stuff and on first listening to this album it sounds just like the American Idiot album, which I only listen to as background music as it doesn't excite me like their previous stuff.

Being a fan of American idiot and not their earlier stuff I have to say what I've heard (1st half of the album) is very good.

I think JohnG sums up my feelings exactly.

I picked it up last night and have listened to it all the way through once and l had it on in the car today.

I quite like it, some parts of it are better than others, its perfectly listenable. However, nothing stands out as being particularly good (for want of a better word) in fact none of it is particularly memorable.

Decent background music though.

Re: Green Day-21st Century Breakdown

I quite enjoyed the anthemic thrash around, but it's going to be one of those short summer records without any lasting power. It was going really well until I thought about another band that managed a similar trick by producing a follow up which was nearly as good as the platinum seller.

Ah Blondie 'Eat to the beat' is, even now, far better than 21st C BD.

Re: Green Day-21st Century Breakdown

I had this in the car and listened to about half of it before getting bored. It's still in the CD changer and I ended up listening to the opening bars before realising it sounded like something for young teens......thats not an attack on young teens as it is a great power pop album, but teens are quite happy to chuck away the unfashionable after a few months where I like something which is difficult to listen, requires patience and hence stays in my collection for many years.
