For me my list has got to have;

Faithless
Leftfield
Orbital
Massive Attack
Soulwax
Groove Armada
Ulrich Schnauss

Just a bit of fun really following a discussion i was having last night

Re: Best dance acts/producers of all time...

To add to your list, which is basicly what I would choose,

Trentemoller
William Orbit
Unkle
DJ Shadow
Air
Bent
Zero 7

probably not dance acts as such and I'm sure there are other producers I could think of of I went through my cd collection.

Got a bit of a love/hate relationship with TCB's. They have down some outstanding work, they have also done well cheesy dodgy stuff. Let me down a bit at Glastonbury.

Some great ones mentioned already, to add a few to the list:

Red Snapper(my all time live favourites)
Kraftwerk
Herbaliser
Alpha
Lamb
Spring Heel Jack
LTJ Bukem(under his various guises)
T-Power("self evident truth" alone means he has to go on the list)

Will probably edit again in a minute as my brain starts to wake up

Just Marc Royal on his own for me, Shy FX(as an early jungle producer/dj) has put out some great tunes but was never too keen on their more commercial bouncy stuff they put out when they linked up. T-Powers Self Evident Truth of an Intuitive Mind album is an all time classic IMO!

Re: Best dance acts/producers of all time...

I've seen Soulwax as 2manydjs many many times & it's been a 50/50 overall.

When they are good they are very very but when they are bad........

I haven't forgiven them for eventually turning up at Matter on NYE, well NYD at 4.30 in the morning then playing a set which i can only describe as below average (and that's being generous).

However Fatboy Slim at Glastonbury 2005 on the other stage was just fantastic.

Great track selection, gave the good people what they wanted !!

You've got to put Justice on the list Cross is the best electronic album probably this century and Waters of Nazareth is a work of pure genius

Agreed. Oakenfold was one of a few that commercialised it, but no way did he invent it, there was years of trance before i was on the scene properly.

Other way round for me 2manydjs gave me the best night I've ever had in 12 years of clubbing. Last April at the empire in Middlesbrough they destroyed the place.3 hrs of the best music I've ever heard. Whereas fatboy slim gave me one of my worst at the wireless festival last year. He was so smashed he could barely walk and the whole set was prerecorded

He was?? I was there and didn't notice !

Mind you it did sound well mixed (not the norm for Norm!)

I thought Deadmau5 was fantastic before him.

The prob with Soulwax was that they'd played two other venues that night, clearly greedy & going for the $$$$$'s

Where abouts where you? we were in the middle about 50ft back and he was gurning all over the place could barely walk at some points and had to be pointed towards the decks when he wandered off stage. I know he was treated for alcohol abuse but it was a lot more that night

My problem with deadmau5 was that it seemed like the warm up set from hell. Started really well dropping all those daft punk samples then just went into the warm up set from hell. Then he'd play the same daft punk samples and repeated until end

2manydjs earnt stupid money NYE private helicopter all over the country as they did Birmingham and Newcastle I believe. When they are on form they are probably the best DJ's you could ever want. Not to serious just pure party music the same as Groove Armada

Re: Best dance acts/producers of all time...

Paul Oakenfold, Andy Weatherall, Giles Peterson, Carl Cox, Danny Rampling, John Digweed.

Love or hate them they have been around since the the 1980's playing out and producing, trying to innovate and be creative, pushing the boundaries of dance music (albeit some times missing the mark).

From Acid House throught the Trance days to progressive house, house, techno or wherever they have branched out and tried to make their niche.

But 2 Many DJ's are good and innovative as are Justice, but time will tell if they are just a electro house mash up band, can they change with the times or will they be just a fad?

BTW if you like 2 Mnay DJ's try Street life DJ's podcast ... it just rocks.

BT is a great too
