What are your favourite lyrics ?

Was listening to 106.1 Rock Radio and a few songs came on today which made me me smile listening to the lyrics.
So what's your favourite lyrics ?
A few off the top of my head
  • Metallica - Nothing Else Matters "So close, no matter how far Couldn't be much more from the heart Forever trusting who we are and nothing else matters"
  • The Kinks - Lola "Well, I'm not the world's most physical guy,
but when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine"

Bruce Springsteen - "Take 'em as they come"

Last night I dreamed we was running through the outlands
Tears streaming, your pretty face all a wreck
(I held your daddy's gun in my tremblin' hands
And down the highway another stranger comes
You gotta take 'em baby when they come.

I can't seem to face up to the facts
I'm tense and nervous and I
Can't relax
I can't sleep 'cause my bed's on fire
Don't touch me I'm a real live wire

Whoever cannot take care of themself without that law is both.
For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I live, I will kill you. If I die, you are forgiven."
Such is the Rule of Honor"

Re: What are your favourite lyrics ?

i pretty much adore each lyric in this, "Arizona" by Kings of Leon

That taste
All I ever needed
All I ever wanted
Too dumb to surrender

She shakes
Like the morning railway
Ch-ch-checking me out
Someone on a shoulder

The lamp
Flickers in the bedroom
She must feel as awkward
Whorehouse Arizona

Now go
Stand up to a giant
Say that I'm a fighter
Too drunk to remember
Too drunk to...

Shake hands
My face is laying on the pavement
Tasting something awful
I hate when that happens

She wades
In and out of sexy
She must be plum crazy
I kinda think I like her
I kinda think I do

You are the only thing in any room you're ever in (Starlings - Elbow)

Assuming that all things are equal,
Who'd want to be men of the people
When there's people like you? (Teddy Picker - Arctic Monkeys)

Re: What are your favourite lyrics ?

'Perfect' by TheThe;

People trot around with unseeing eyes
They're looking for something that doesn't exist
The world we once knew is being eaten up by rust
No-one has time for the past but still in God they trust
The future is now, but it's all going wrong
Bodies queue for nothing for it is to nothing they belong
People say their prayers and some work hard
If you give them all your money, they'll give you their hearts
This town ain't getting like a ghost town
It's getting like hell

Oh what a perfect day to think about myself
My feet are firmly screwed to the floor
What is there to fear from such a regular world?

'This is the Day' by TheThe;

You could've done anything If you'd wanted
And all your friends and family think that you're lucky
But the side of you they'll never see
Is when you're left alone with the memories
That hold your life together ... like glue

'Uncertain Smile' by TheThe;

I've got you under my skin
Where the rain can't get in
But if the sweat pours out, just shout
I'll try to swim and pull you out

Pretty much the whole of 'Soul Mining' really.

Re: What are your favourite lyrics ?

I dont believe King for a Day Fool for a lifetime is Faith No More's best album, but there are alot of great lines on that album. They make me laugh everytime I hear them. Mike Patton is a sick little puppy.

'What a day, what a day when you can look me in the face and hold your vomit'
'I deserve a reward, cos Im the best **** that you ever had'
'Its always funny until someone gets hurt, then its just hilarious'
'I know how Piggy feels, he starves without missing a meal, dont look at me Im ugly in the morning'
They are just a few lines of the top of my head that make me chuckle, but obviously they are funnier within the context of the song.

U2 - You gotta cry without weeping, talk without speaking, scream without raising your voice.

Pink Floyd - We're just 2 lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year.

and many more.

Leonard Cohen - Closing Time

but there's nothing really happening
and the place is dead as Heaven on a Saturday night

Re: What are your favourite lyrics ?

The The - Armageddon Days

They're 5 miles high as the crow flies
leavin' vapour trails against a blood red sky
Movin' in from the East toward the West
with Balaclava helmets over their heads, yes!

But if you think that Jesus Christ is coming
Honey you've got another thing coming
If he ever finds out who's hi-jacked his name
He'll cut out his heart and turn in his grave

Islam is rising
The Christians mobilising
The world is on its elbows and knees
It's forgotten the message and worships the creeds

It's war, she cried, It's war, she cried, this is war
Drop your possessions, all you simple folk
You will fight them on the beaches in your underclothes
You will thank the good lord for raising the union jack
You'll watch the ships out of harbour
and the bodies come floating back

If the real Jesus Christ were to stand up today
He'd be gunned down cold by the C.I.A.
Oh, the lights that now burn brightest behind stained glass
Will cast the darkest shadows upon the human heart
But God didn't build himself that throne
God doesn't live in Israel or Rome
God belong to the yankee dollar
God doesn't plant the bombs for Hezbollah
God doesn't even go to church
And God won't send us down to Allah to burn
No, God will remind us what we already know
That the human race is about to reap what it's sown

The world is on its elbows and knees
It's forgotten the message and worships the creeds
Armageddon days are here again
