I'm looking forward to this (especially the mono versions, which are in some cases radically different), but I'm already blanching at how much it'll cost.

I wasn't very keen on the re-hashed CD released a couple of years ago. Somehow you need the authentic 60s production to make it sound right. IMO of course.

Know exactly what you mean.
Hope they aren't overproduced and polished and lose the feel of the music or the era.
Let's hope for just a nice straight stransfer.

Naturally I have never ever heard these tracks, but I understand that if you listen to bootleg recordings of some of the alternative takes that were copied direct from master tapes and then digitised without any compression or faffing around, they sound stunning. If this time around straight uncompressed transfers are done, they should likewise sound sensational.

It's a shame that there's no sign of SACD or DVD-A releases.

Thumbs down Re: Beatles to release Remasterd CD's in September !!

I quite fancy these, but I'd like a boxset and there doesn't appear to be one.

There are two boxed sets - one stereo and one mono.

I agree. Although i'm looking forward to these releases, I would be more excited if they were more along the lines of the Genesis or Depeche Mode re-releases which include both CD and DVD-A versions.

Re: Beatles to release Remasterd CD's in September !!

In the release one of the guys commented that they sound "louder" than the older CD releases. I only hope they haven't done what they've done on a lot of remasters and actually made them sound worse by making them louder.

They are made to sound 'louder' by adding further dynamic compression during the remastering. Absolutely criminal as it robs the music of its natural dynamics.

Rant over!

I couldn't agree more. After listening to SACDs/DVD-As, I find it very hard to get excited about CDs. I also feel there's a lot in what HeadBanger says. There must be people within the recorded music industry, that feel by slapping the word "remastered" on CDs will automatically tell people that they are better than what came before.

Sorry to drag this topic up, but I still can't see the new remastered CDs available in a box set, or am I simply going blind in my old age!?

Amazon.co.uk: beatles remastered box set

[Edit] - I can't even see a box set on the Beatles UK store: http://www.digitalstores.co.uk/beatl...gory=remasters

Even though is it clearly announced on the news pages:

Quote:
7th April 2009

Apple Corps Ltd. and EMI Music are delighted to announce the release of the original Beatles catalogue, which has been digitally re-mastered for the first time, for worldwide CD release on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 (9-9-09), the same date as the release of the widely anticipated "The Beatles: Rock Band" video game. Each of the CDs is packaged with replicated original UK album art, including expanded booklets containing original and newly written liner notes and rare photos. For a limited period, each CD will also be embedded with a brief documentary film about the album. On the same date, two new Beatles boxed CD collections will also be released.

More money in Jacksons pocket.

I suppose he has to get it from somewhere now he has postponed all his concerts.

It's a shame that's where the money will end up. I remember reading a while back that Paul McCartney was trying to buy the back-catologue rights back, can't see wacko letting them go though.
