I'm looking forward to this (especially the mono versions, which are in some cases radically different), but I'm already blanching at how much it'll cost.

I wasn't very keen on the re-hashed CD released a couple of years ago. Somehow you need the authentic 60s production to make it sound right. IMO of course.

Know exactly what you mean.
Hope they aren't overproduced and polished and lose the feel of the music or the era.
Let's hope for just a nice straight stransfer.

Naturally I have never ever heard these tracks, but I understand that if you listen to bootleg recordings of some of the alternative takes that were copied direct from master tapes and then digitised without any compression or faffing around, they sound stunning. If this time around straight uncompressed transfers are done, they should likewise sound sensational.

It's a shame that there's no sign of SACD or DVD-A releases.

Thumbs down Re: Beatles to release Remasterd CD's in September !!

I quite fancy these, but I'd like a boxset and there doesn't appear to be one.

There are two boxed sets - one stereo and one mono.

I agree. Although i'm looking forward to these releases, I would be more excited if they were more along the lines of the Genesis or Depeche Mode re-releases which include both CD and DVD-A versions.

Re: Beatles to release Remasterd CD's in September !!

In the release one of the guys commented that they sound "louder" than the older CD releases. I only hope they haven't done what they've done on a lot of remasters and actually made them sound worse by making them louder.

They are made to sound 'louder' by adding further dynamic compression during the remastering. Absolutely criminal as it robs the music of its natural dynamics.

Rant over!

I couldn't agree more. After listening to SACDs/DVD-As, I find it very hard to get excited about CDs. I also feel there's a lot in what HeadBanger says. There must be people within the recorded music industry, that feel by slapping the word "remastered" on CDs will automatically tell people that they are better than what came before.

Sorry to drag this topic up, but I still can't see the new remastered CDs available in a box set, or am I simply going blind in my old age!?

Amazon.co.uk: beatles remastered box set

[Edit] - I can't even see a box set on the Beatles UK store: http://www.digitalstores.co.uk/beatl...gory=remasters

Even though is it clearly announced on the news pages:

Quote:
7th April 2009

Apple Corps Ltd. and EMI Music are delighted to announce the release of the original Beatles catalogue, which has been digitally re-mastered for the first time, for worldwide CD release on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 (9-9-09), the same date as the release of the widely anticipated "The Beatles: Rock Band" video game. Each of the CDs is packaged with replicated original UK album art, including expanded booklets containing original and newly written liner notes and rare photos. For a limited period, each CD will also be embedded with a brief documentary film about the album. On the same date, two new Beatles boxed CD collections will also be released.

More money in Jacksons pocket.

I suppose he has to get it from somewhere now he has postponed all his concerts.

It's a shame that's where the money will end up. I remember reading a while back that Paul McCartney was trying to buy the back-catologue rights back, can't see wacko letting them go though.

The Beatles: digital re-mastered 09.09.09

Hello All,

Got an email today from digital stores and the new box sets are all up on there websites now!

To me... the Beatles are the greatest group to walk the earth, there influence on the 20th century culture and popular music can still be felt today...

so it was great to finally to here that i can finally get my hands on digitally re-mastered versions on all there british studio albums and there past masters collection has been condensed into one album.

the box set and seperate versions can be purchased from 09.09.09 (John Lennon was obsessed with the number 9 , so im assuming thats why the chose this date.

what im not happy about however is the price £199.00 pounds or if you chose the american site $219 dollars..which is also marketed better and has more detail about the set. each cd also has a mini documentary about the making of each album and also the cds have additional notes as well.

the beatles merchandise and associated products have been notoriously overpriced for a long time and as much as i love the beatles and will be purchasing this set..i believe £150 would have been a fairer and more realistic price..especially in todays current climate..no doubt it will sell well for all the legions of beatles fans out there.... a price drop in mechandice would have been a welcome..if not overdue..but i suppose you cannot put a price on quality..see for yourself.

The albums have been re-mastered by a dedicated team of engineers at EMI's Abbey Road Studios in London. The result of this painstaking process is the highest fidelity the catalogue has seen since its original release.

Box Set Includes:
-Hard black glossy lift top with magnet clasp
-All 13 Studio remasters plus Past Masters
-CD's are packaged in three panel digi-pak with digital mini documentaries

the beatles digitally remastered box set - uk store

the beatles digitally remastered box set - us store

the beatles re-mastered box set - Mono £209.99 !!!!also..im pretty sure stereo mixes where done originally for the first four albums in the studio, but have only ever been released on vinyl, so they do exist..im used to hearing the mono versions on cd!

ironically, im hoping to pick this up cheaper than this..but i wont hold my breath

just found this on amazon! £169.99 ..so saved myself 30 quid already lol!

also at base.com £159.99 plus free delivery anyone use them before?..so im almost at the £150 i wanted by running a few searches!

edit* these prices have changed since my original post

anyone know were i can get any trusted reviews of these albums (the remaster and how they sound) not the songs themselves as i already know they are gold (except maybe for ..ob la de, ob la da, yellow submarine, and octopus garden)..i know that info maybe not be available yet ..but it should be soon...dont want to spend this amount of dosh if it aint right!

yes that makes sense, i did do a search using the word beatles before starting the thread, but to be honest..the search function hasnt really worked correctly for me for months...putting the word beatles in brought zero back?

i have reported this thread to a mod, to merge with existing thread!

Well the record label have no need to offer the retailers any discount, so it would no doubt have to come off the retailers bottom line, maybe give it a few weeks if you can wait !

I had decided not to bother with these, but Tesco started selling them early so I could not resist. Looking forward to hearing what they sound like now.

Re: Beatles to release Remasterd CD's in September !!

I'm not much of a Beatles fan and i have been loaned the discs, haven't listened yet but from what i gather these remasters one set in mono and that allows for a rawer sound.
•No limiting was used (ie: "over compression") so the original dynamics of The Beatles music is preserved. This is of great importance to audiophiles.

yes but with import fees because of the size of the box, it would probably work out more or less the same!

The stereo boxset sounds gorgeous, a noticeable improvement on the old releases IMO. Got my boxset for £159, but none left at that stockist.

Re: Beatles to release Remasterd CD's in September !!

I am not sure if my HiFi is at fault oor I was expecting too much from these remasters

My Kit -
Tagmclaren AV32DP
Belcanto Power Amp
Tagmclaren CD20 Transport
B&W 805 Signitures

I have listened to MMT & Abbey Road & Revolver & SPLHB & while the bass & the drums do sound betterish, The treble & the voices sound a little 'shut in' to my ears.

Bit dissapointed really

I have listened to MMT & Abbey Road & Revolver & SPLHB & while the bass & the drums do sound betterish, The treble & the voices sound a little 'shut in' to my ears.

Bit dissapointed really

that doesnt sound good ...im assuming your listening to the stereo boxset..if anyone is going to post..please state whether or not it is stereo or mono you are listening to as i am interested on your thoughts on both...any online reviews anyway?..i dont have a spare £170 quid at the moment, but i will pick one or both of the boxsets up...provided i am happy with the sound before i buy!

•No limiting was used (ie: "over compression") so the original dynamics of The Beatles music is preserved. This is of great importance to audiophiles.
