Alan Parsons "Eye in the Sky" Audio Problems

I recently took delivery of The Alan Parsons Project "Eye in the Sky" DVD Audio from Caiman.

After having listened to it a few times, it has come to my attention that there's a problem with the audio on at least one track. The track where I've noticed this is the title track, no. 2, "Eye in the Sky". The overall quality of the audio is extremely impressive, as you might expect, but it suffers from some occasional "clicking/popping" like dropout, and pitch change, which is as if there was tape strretch.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Has anyone else "solved" it, by possibly getting a replacement disc?

Glad to hear from anyone.

Re: Alan Parsons "Eye in the Sky" Audio Problems

Here’s an update.

I reported my findings to Caiman, and I’m pleased to say they responded very quickly. They offered to send out a replacement disc, or give a refund. I opted for a new disc. A new disc is now on its way to me, which I hope will arrive by the weekend.

Obviously, I hope that the replacement disc will not have the same audio faults as my original album. Such a shame, as the general audio quality is outstanding on this album.

I did notice that this problem had been highlighted on at least one other forum, Strangely, some people mentioned the problems, others said their discs were absolutely fault free. Perhaps there were a few rogue discs produced, or perhaps a whole batch. If anyone’s interested, I can compare and report code numbers on the discs when the replacement arrives.

Anyway, top marks to Caiman for responding like this.

PS I can recommend the audio quality of the other Alan Parsons Projects DVD-As, i.e. “I Robot” and “The Turn of a Friendly Card” - top notch!

I wish I knew if I liked everything he's done. I remember many years ago, probably around the late 70s, my brother had the LP "Ammonia Avenue". I thought it was fantastic.

I had sort of "forgotten" Alan Parsons over the years, but re-discovered his music by way of the hi-res formats SACD and DVD-A. Basically, I bought the Pink Floyd "(The) Dark Side of the Moon" SACD, and that sparked my memories. Yes - you're right, he was connected with The Beatles, and Pink Floyd also - and some others also I believe. He was/is a sound engineer.

These DVD-As are really quite good. I had put off buying them for a long time. Not sure why, but I do know that the fact that they're stereo only probably caused me to dither. There was absolutely no need, they may be 2CH only, but they are of the highest quality.

I haven't bought any CDs for about 4 and a half years now, and am not overly bothered about getting any more. I'll have to see if more of his albums come out in hi-res. I might go for the "On Air" DTS CD though.
