Re: UK hip hop

I do mate, but you seem to have nailed most of them, although you missed Ricochet Klashnekoff who's album, the Sagas of Klashnekoff is probably the best out there (IMHO).

Re: UK hip hop

Yep big fan of home grown rap!

Cappo, Scorzayzee, Jehst, Braintax, Taskforce, Foreign Beggars, PhiLife, Sonny Jim, Stig of the dump, prolly some of our best emcees this side of the ocean, but as i hate to say it america have so many good lyricists (from Atmosphere to Immortal Technique) our talent is completly diluted by very poor bedroom/wannabe emcees with even worse productions, dont get me wrong u gotta start somewhere but there is alot of faff out there.

i would even say the french hiphop scene is as good as ours.

Peace

i've never heard of a single one of them uk rappers!

i must be getting old, as schoolly d was the very first live act i ever saw. the first 12" i bought was the show by doug e fresh (who i've seen and met a few times) featuring slick rick

the main uk rappers i know are the streets, wiley, professor green, the mitchel brothers and stuff like that. i prefer common, mos def, q tip, kayne, eminem, from todays rappers, and going back a bit, public enemy, beastie boys, and paris. not so keen on 50 cent or jay z

hes a money hoe.

taskforce made voice of the great outdoors, and they just wanted people to hear it and braintax had a struggling label. so they said to brains " put our record on ur label, u take all the money from the sales and well make money from the live shows".
taskforce dint make *** all from the live shows but still let brains take all the profit, THEN, when taskforce wanted to release either new mic order or mftc 1(i cant remember) they asked brains to put it on their label and he said he wanted a big cut out of the money, AFTER they had already done him a massive favour, he wanted to take a cut when his label was already making loads and taskforce were making sweet FA.

thats why we should boycott braintax. he has dome sum sick tracks, last tenner, riviera hustle, biro funk, escuchame and all them but he is a dhead man.

Re: UK hip hop

I was meriting Braintax on his musical involvement rather than his financial acumen. Don't know much about the ins and outs of all that, I just listen to the music!

Anyone heard Tommy Evans album "Turbulent Times of........."

"Water Torture" feat. Jehst is well worth a listen, especially as it was recorded in a tent I remember reading somewhere!

cnt believe i forgot tommy evans aswell, yeh water torture is a fat tune, the wasteland by him is good aswell.

yeh in that sense braintax is quite sick, i do like a lot of his tunes, well the early stuff but he did start to think he was a politician.

What??? A money hoe? hmmm imma have to disagree mate, this guy who was the founder of Lowlife records, that most of the emcees listed on this thread have released stuff on, so without it the scene would be even worse then it is now (diluted by very poor grime ****), so to hate on Brains is ****** retarded. from BiroFunk to Panorama, the man is dope and has done more for UK hiphop then you or anyone mentioned on this list.

Peace

Oh and check out The Get Out Vol 1 & 2 by Cappo, one of the best ukhh lps released in recent years.

MOD COMMENT

as well as a no swearing rule, which includes no circumventing the swear filter by mispelling or inserting other characters, we have a rule that doesn't allow "txt speak". this includes alternate non standard english ways of communicating

simply put, if you want to post on the forums, it must be in proper english so anyone reading can understand it. foreign language is also not allowed as it's a UK based site with UK mods, so if we can't understand what we are reading, we will usually delete it

I agree totally. His last album was a bit rubbish but Awfully Deep, Run Come Save me and Brand New Second hand were brilliant.
His best song is probably Witness (1 hope).

I found this text speak and swearing go hand in hand with this type of music and most modern hip hop, which is why I don,t listen to it any more

Are you the woman off 'Midnight Marauders'? lol

Slightly off topic (Continent wise), as not so well versed on UK Hip Hop, but for US MC's its got to be:

Guru (Gangstarr)
GZA (Liquid Swords anyone?)
Q-Tip
Kool keith
Mos Def/Kweli (Blackstar)
Jeru
Quasimoto

Old school shouts to:
Brand Nubian/Beasties/KRS/slick Rick etc

Re: UK hip hop

Not often UKHH gets a mention here, been into it for years myself since getting tired of USHH(with a few exceptions) after my early love of Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul etc.

Jehst being one of my personal favourites, for me his debut album Return of the Drifter was his finest but all his stuff's good, also really like Braintax, Taskforce, Lewis Parker, Verb T, Kashmere, Rodney P........

So much choice in UKHipHop now, I remember when the debuts from the likes of London Posse, Lewis Parker, Black Twang and Brotherhood were about the only albums you could hope to find in the highstreet

BTW, not to everyones taste but does nobody rate Aspects? Great bunch of guys and absolutely fantastic live(haven't seen them about in ages though)! Going back a few years earlier Parlour Talk, Padlocked Tonic is such a great album IMO, still cracks me up now, hillarious lyrics
