Human League fans?

Got to say, they are my favourite band. Find myself listening to them on an almost daily basis. One of those bands that just keep popping up.

Saw them at the Manchester Apollo last December, stunning set - part of the "Steel City Tour" with Heaven 17 and ABC. League did about 1hr 10mins - absolutely amazing. Sounded much better than their live DVD at Brighton - they've obviously pumped a fair bit of money into their live shows recently.

Have a few interviews with them on DVD, always found Phil Oakey very interesting and it's refreshing that he basically says "we just copied Krafterk"

Any other fans here want to talk HL?

Re: Human League fans?

Happy to !

I've seen them about 4 times in the last four years or so.

I'm dead against all these 80's bands reforming for money Ultravox please step forward), Human League never broke up and clearing had spent time touring, touring & touring.

Really good live would surprise quite a few people

Re: Human League fans?

I still enjoy listening to Dare which is a superb album, Love and Dancing is worth tracking down if you haven't heard it - it is basically an instrumental remixed version of Dare and is credited to The League Unlimited Orchestra.

I think I owned a copy of this on cassete around 1982. Is this the album that had all the Dare tracks remixed like 12" versions?
Love to hear this again but I bet it hasn't aged well.

I think so. There was a huge 12 inch remix thing at the time. I have to say I enjoyed many of these. I don't have room for my record player at the moment but I'd love to hear these again.

Re: Human League fans?

I got the CD copy of Dare/Love and Dancing a few weeks ago and it's briliant . Has all the remixes;

Dare!/Love and Dancing: The Human League: Amazon.co.uk: Music

Agree with what brian s says. There WAS a huge 12" remix thing - I've got a couple - Love action and Hard Times. Love Action 12" vinyl is the dogs. Also loved 'One Man in My Heart' and Life on your Own which is superb . Also, Phil Oakey's album with Georgio Moroder is brilliant too;

Philip Oakey and Giorgio Moroder: Philip Oakey, Giorgio Moroder: Amazon.co.uk: Music

The 12 inch remixes were often brilliant. You bought them in addition to the album.

Re: Human League fans?

I bought Travelogue and Reproduction the other week both still excellent albums, I do still like the earlier Human League stuff and do have Dare and the Love and Dancing albums on cassette somewhere, may buy them again on cd, but went off HL after Dare, except for Fascination, excellent bass line) and Lebanon, tended to go for BEF or Heaven 17 stuff over them at the time. I do like "1st man in space" the song Phil Oakey did on the All seeing I album.

I'll have to check some their stuff out. Any songs you recommend specifically for me to download?

There's too many to mention. Here's a discography.

The Human League discography - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Louise, Human, One Man In My Heart and The Lebanon to start with. Most of their singles were very good and a lot of the album tracks as well.

All the very best

Anything off the album Dare is a good starting point.

Re: Human League fans?

I was lucky to see them again performing the whole of Dare in the circus tent at Bestival last year & again doing a greatest hits set on the main stage a few hours later

Sandwiched between sets by The Specials (with everyone except Jerry D) & Numan & finally Grace Jones as a surprise guest.

Re: Human League fans?

Great band, saw them a few years ago & they were still excellent.

I used to buy loads of limited edition vinyl records, Depeche Mode, Human League etc...sold a lot years later on ebay but still have a few bits, think I still have the 7" Louise Picture Disc

(or maybe I sold it )

Re: Human League fans?

'The Circus of Death' is currently my favourite song of all time, and has been in the top few since I bought the 'Being Boiled' single back in the very early 80s when it was re-issued and had this absolute gem on the B side.

I urge you to look on Youtube for the video.

got that single somewhere, I also got being boiled on a b side of I think Rock 'n' Roll part 2 along with Marrianne.. which is an excellent track, in fact at the time I got the Rock n roll 7" single/ep with different b sides, probably scratched to hell now as there sitting at the top of my wardrobe.

Phil Oakey duets with the superb Little Boots on the track "Symmetry".

Which is on her forthcoming album, & it's a cracker !

Re: Human League fans?

hehe...I saw Human League in about 1984. They played the Crawley Leasure centre the night before playing Wembley stadium! Good fun very small gig...think it may have been my first. Only thing that let it down for me was Phil was a bit of a porker...which doesn't look good on a rocker IMO ...especially as he was wearing a button less open shirt to his navel.

Travelogue and Reproduction are my favs...although it was Dare that turned me onto them.

I've been trying to track down Thompson Twins first two albums again. Can't for the life of me remember what they were called...a lot different to the stuff they sold later.
