re: Michael Jackson - O2 Arena 2009 discussion

I care as I am always for the quality of the 'product' rather than the inevitable baggage that follows in being so successful.

I have no interest at all whether he is straight or gay, white or black, 25 or 50, rich or poor, surgically enhanced or otherwise. As long as he can still sing and perform as he did when I grew up listening to his music as a kid, that's what matters.

I was fortunate to be able to see Jackson perform at Wembley during his Dangerous tour, heights he never reached again. I have big doubts tho as to whether he has enough left in him to perform consistently at a high level, particularly live.

So you think that being successful goes hand in hand with the kind of baggage Jackson has gathered up for himself over the years?

I can think of many more successful bands / singers than Jackson, none of which you could say come with baggage.

I don't think being successful inevitably leads to all artists carrying baggage. In Jackon's case it was inevitable, as it began whilst he was part of the Jackson 5.

What I'm (trying!) to say is I have no interest in the crap that follows an artist. I enjoy music video's, but if they didn't exist it wouldn't bother me, as I'd rather hear the actual music. I love football but I don't obsess over the players etc.

I wasn't sure if I should make my original post as I suspected it would lead to question. I'm just saying I have enjoyed his music over the past 40 or so years and if he still has enough quality to carry that on, that's ok for me.

ahh finally somebody else who shares my opinion on him and other artists, not fussed what lies behind the music so i dont care if he's guilty or not tbh, if he still produces good music then thats all i care about but he stopped that ages ago im afraid. A once brilliant artist, i think this tour will be rubbish. His era has passed now, he should move on.

Yeah but theres whole loads of other stuff in that the first kid he just payed off massively and he blatently would've been charged with. Also he was in a hotel room with loads of children and the next morning they found poo smeared all over the place. He's just wierd.

Yeah you can say that doesnt affect the music but I just dont really like his music anyway. So to me he's just someone whos rich and gets away with paedophilia because of his money and status. And now his money has run out and he's a sad and desperate wierdo.

Re: original question of MJ - Who cares?

Probably his fans?

Thread could read New Oasis tour - who cares? Or Mariah Carey to play O2 - who cares?

Although I think the pirpose of the thread was to take a stab at him.

Personally, haven't seen him in recent years, there is no way that man is going to be able to put on a show. He's like a man of 90. Too frail.

Hi.

I'm a big fan of the 'King Of Pop', so when they said he is doing 30 days of concerts in the UK. I was on cloud nine.

I can't wait to see him at the 02 Stadium. But there is a couple of doubts in my mind. 1. I hope the tickets will not be seriously expensive during this bad financial time. 2. Has Michael got the energy to perform at this high level.

Personally all I don't believe any of this garbage about the child molesting that went on.
Michael is not stupid to risk his career like that. But I'm afraid his name is tarnished forever, and these things will never be forgotten.

But no one can deny what a gifted individual he is with his music and dancing.

'Welcome back Michael' your still a Legend in my eyes.

My view is that he's just got the mental age of a child, as evidenced by his behaviour in interviews, in court, in business etc. That's why he's broke ... know's sweet FA about money or prudence, easily fleeced, pays/borrows from/relies on others who then cut him loose because of his immature behaviour and spending.

I doubt he's actually shagged anything, and if he really was a paedophile he'd very likely be very crafty, slippery and scheming as they tend to be, rather than an immature clueless spendaholic hypochondriac. I've read about the old recording sessions with Quincey Jones, with Q constantly exasperated by his infantile behaviour.

Last seen Jacko perform on tv a few years ago and he was a bag of nerves and sounded terrible, don't think to many people will pay a big amount to watch him now.

Someone mentioned Gary Glitter earlier, I wouldn't be surprised if he made a comeback but not in the U.K., I was in Canada working a couple of years ago and the radio stations were always playing his songs, I wondered if anyone over there even knew what he has been jailed for (twice), also thought to myself that Glitter would be getting paid everytime they played one of his songs.

Jacko to make comeback

Cant see a thread on this (doesnt mean there isnt one mind lol)

Whats peoples thoughts on this ? as he is supposedly going to be announcing today some concerts in the 02 arena.

Me personally, i hope he does, as was too young to see him first time round, and this would obviously be last chance.

Dont think he will be as good as last tours he did (obviously), though i do have high hopes still!!

With being in the o2 arena, do they still do the offer where people who have there hpone with 02 get priority ? if so where do you go to apply for tickets ? as dont want to miss out
