See, now that's some sensible pricing. That's how to cut out piracy, bring the price to a more reasonable level that people will feel bad ripping it off, rather than being ripped off by normal CD prices.

Great price.

I paid £8.95 (less Quidco) for mine. Postred on the 26th so I'm hoping the postie will be dropping it off today.

@ signs - make sure and give it a few listens....it's a grower.

Re: No line on the horizon ...U2

Listened to some of the first songs on the CD a few times, sounds a bit too familiar formulaic U2, not bad but not many surprises either, dare i say boring ? - did someone say experimental ? 'Pop', now that was experimental IMO, and now I have a craving to listen to that again- a much maligned and derided CD which I think is excellent, took a while to grow on me and to discover the gems in it. If you wear that velvet dress, playboy mansion, MOFO, if god would send his angels, last night on earth, miami, please, wake up dead man- goodness there were so many ! Give us more of that ! All said, I'm sure I'll get to like this CD more, but don't think I'll be nuts about it, like I was for HTBAAB and Pop.

Thanks for the heads up, just read it, doesn't really affect me though, I only signed up a few weeks ago and only use the free service.

Re: No line on the horizon ...U2

Great album - really is a grower.
Obvious singles for me are Magnificent, Moment of Surrender, I'll Go Crazy..., Breathe

Must admit to downloading this a couple of weeks ago via torrents - they're my favourite band and i couldn't wait to listen to it.

I've redeemed myself though by ordering the £40 box set.

They've also announced another new album for late 2009/early 2010.
It will be called 'Songs of Ascent' with the lead single being 'Every Breaking Wave'

Bono has described it as a more laid back record - it will compliment 'No Line...' in much the same way that 'Zooropa' was seen as a companion to 'Achtung Baby'

For those of you who haven't caught it yet - U2's visit to the BBC is available via Text/Red Button across the BBC digital channels - some really good live performances including an edited version of the rooftop gig.

I think this may only be available until tomorrow though so be quick!

Its tragic - my flatmate inexplicably spotified it. Anyone catch them on the Jonathon Ross show few weeks back? Talk about needing a new sound technician... and vocalist

According to the BBC news web site yesterday, customers of this service are potentially at risk because the site's Swedish servers have been compromised, and customers data has been stolen!

I've never used Spotify before so I don't know if you have to supply them with any financial info, card numbers etc, but from what I read it is more a risk of ID theft etc.

The difference is there was only a year or two between Achtung and Zooropa, not 5. I've given it a couple more listens and yes, it's slowly growing on me. There are some decent tracks. It's just that is still sound like out takes from the last couple of albums. I think your right, if they had released it a year after HTDAAB then the two would be good companions. As it its, is just all a but samey.

there's the free version with adverts every half hour or the paid for advert free version....I don't mind listening to the Elephant.co.uk ad every half hour or so, so use the free version, that and I'm a cheapskate

Re: No line on the horizon ...U2

I'm not a fan of the new album. Listened to it plenty, but it just makes me want to listen to their other albums more! One or two decent tracks (e.g. Magnificent) but its overall a weak effort IMHO, and just an extension of the last album, that I think was better! There's a real lack of melody on some of these songs, as I couldn't hum back half of them!!

Mind you the new tracks sounded so much better live....on the BBC show and Jonathan Ross.

"The difference is there was only a year or two between Achtung and Zooropa, not 5"

Hey PMC, not sure what you mean? There will only be a year or so between "No Line...." & "Songs of Ascent" - there is no deliberate connnection to HTDAAB in any way as far as i am aware?

I think what is really commendable for a band like U2 is like, love, loath, etc etc they are a band who are constantly looking to push themselves in different directions. It would have been the easy choice (easy money, easy adulation easy easy easy everything!) to churn out Joshua Tree part 2, part 3 and so on, let all of their 'anthems' be used to advertise toothpaste, panty liners, surgical appliances, daz washing powder & the latest BMW sports car but they haven't.

Anyway, 33 years in existence and it's amazing that they can still provoke so much discussion

You are talking about self-declared saint Bono who thinks of himself he actually means anything?
Question: does he really think those stupid sunglasses look cool and does he wear them to bed?

Re: No line on the horizon ...U2

After a few listens its growing on me but its a bit dull. One song has a section that sounds like forgotten irish pop group, Bewitched .

I really liked Achtung baby, Zooropa & Pop stuff a lot more.

I misunderstood your post. I though you meant No Line was a good companion to HTDAAB.

I totally agree about U2 being brave and constantly trying to find a new sound, until now. That's the problem I have with No Line. After 5 years I would have expected something a bit different. It just sounds like a slightly less good version of the last couple of albums to me.
