Re: Bands that should have been far more successful?

Following on from the Pixies - Kim Deal leads me to The Breeders and then to Tanya Donelly - Throwing Muses

Snuff - excellent live band

matt johnson didn't have a very chart friendly sound most of the time, he had a few hits like heartland and slow train till dawn, but his lyrics were a bit depressing for most. everything then went pear shaped when sony refused to release gun sluts and he released nakedself on an indie label and realised going down that route wasn't any better

it's a shame they didn't realise the second cd boxset with the rarer and unreleased albums and the dvd set of the stuff previously out on video as i was really looking forward to it. it was nice to get some of the 12"s on the limited 45rpm 2cd set though

Re: Bands that should have been far more successful?

Some of the aforementioned bands were successful in their own right, Pixies, Throwing Muses and Captain Beefheart. They produced challenging and interesting music with artistic integrity.

If you are talking about commercially successful, I would respectfully suggest that many bands are not motivated by seeking such success.

The Alarm.

It was 25 years last weekend since the release of Declaration, and it's still an excellent LP.
