Evanescence

Any Evanescence fans here abouts?
Amy Lee has an amazing voice (though after looking at the amusing beyonce thread I realise guys have little interest in this particular aspect of a singer ironically lol). I'm going to see them play live on Halloween night in Manchester, should be good, assuming I can see... not much of a mosher.

Her voice is OK, dont like the band, too much like Linkin Park for my tastes. Im not sure the two styles merge successfully.

These sort of collaborations usually sound a bit strange (not always a bad thing), some combine elements extremely well 'Walk this way' is a good example of how good it can be.

I cant see them being around for long, theres lots of better bands around.

Agreed. Bought the album on a recomendation of a friend, was a bit disapointed. Normally, when something sounds samey to me, I listen to it for ages and then fall in love with it and harp on about the differences between the tracks that no one else notices but not with this one. Not a good sign.

She is definately a good singer.
Can see her going solo pretty soon.
Looks like one of those bands where the band just disappears behind her. Kinda like No Doubt.
Obvious where all the talent is kinda thing...

Not really my bag though.

Evanescence = "The act or state of vanishing away; disappearance; as, the evanescence of vapor, of a dream, of earthly plants or hopes." bit of a nicer way to put it than Dimmy. No dislike of a band should go that far (even if it's just a bit of a joke).
FWIW, I think they're ok & not just Linkin Park wannabes (I thought My Immortal ws Tori Amos when I heard it). I'm not sure that the whole "We're not a Christian Band, we're just Christians who happen to write songs that might be a bit Christian" hoohah will have won them many friends though.

Anyone remember Stryper?
Thought not. No one will remember Evanescence either. Bunch of arse.

I thought they were Linkin Park when I first heard them, and that little bald guy had had his nuts cut off to hit some higher notes... or any notes for that matter

Nu Metal
Shortlived flash in the pan nonsense must be close to the end of its life cycle by now... time for the kids to get back into trendy pop music in time for the new school term

I quite liked the album, but if you like this sort of thing, check out Lacuna Coil. Far better.

Shows you've not heard the a;bum then , that single is the only one with the nu-metal rap/rock crap on it.

The rest is blissfully linkin-park free.

Wow some of you guys are harsh.

I 'personally' like them and their older stuff is also good (again IMO). Thanks 'links' for the origins idea but I already have the album, I like it also

Still looking forward to seeing them in Manchester.
Thanks for the feedback anyway guys.

I think they're OK, saw them at Download when I should've been watching Metallica but due to evil friends I never found out, grrrr.

Still Leeds more than made up for it. Oh yeah LP are fantastic live, even if you don't like them, they're a good live band. Metallica were best of course

I missed them at Download, cos I was watching Metallica

I think they are pretty good, kind of a female front Linkin Park clone, but that's not a bad thing considering most of the garbage in the charts.

And I remember Stryer very well - got all their albums - I always liked them..

Hi GirlyGamer

I'm off to the same gig too on 31-Oct - it's a great 'intimate' venue, and I'm sooooo looking fwd to it !

I think Ev will be around for some time - have you heard the interviews ? Amy & Ben have been writing together since they were 15 or so, and although the more recent stuff might show some NuMetal influence, I'm sure their partnership will stand the test of time.

And the live 'n' acoustic stuff (Bring Me To Life, Even In Death and Nirvana's Heart Shaped Box) highlight Amy's superb voice - sweet yet powerful, dynamic & controlled.

One track I'm hoping for is Understanding, one of my faves - GirlyGamer, any clues as to the setlist yet ??

See you there !
