Re: Albums on memory cards...goodbye CD?
Not so sure about some of the details on this. For example...
"Schreiber said slotMusic albums will be sold on 1 gigabyte microSD cards, which means they will be able to hold a full album and related content such as liner notes and cover art."
Why would they need a 1Gb card? The information could fit on one half the size of that so reducing cost.

Re: Albums on memory cards...goodbye CD?
I can't see this happening any time soon to be honest. CD production will continue to be cheaper than memory cards for some time to come surely ?

Re: Albums on memory cards...goodbye CD?
I do not see it taking off
And in any case the future is online distribution. We are all waiting (I mean the western world here) to get the infrastructure for high-speed internet access to all and agreement on agreeable standards so paid for music works on all devices a consumer would have (TV, PC, laptop, PVP, DAP, car stereo even)
Thanks

Ouch!
John, SS is falling in price all the time! I just picked up a 4GB data traveller for well under a fiver!
I know CD is dirt cheap to make, record and pay the artists (funny how that's not reflected in the price ) but SS is getting to the point where they can sling a few albums on it for next to nothing and, as it's no being asked to record (writing an re-writing is what drops the lifespan), it should last for decades.

Re: Albums on memory cards...goodbye CD?
I don't understand why anyone would want to buy albums on SD cards, I have 5,000 cds would be a nightmare if they were all on SD.
Downloading is the future just need BT to get their act together and supply a decent service nationwide..

He said the industry needs "desperately" to give people a new reason to head back into the music sections at brick-and-mortar stores.

This will NEVER happen, don't matter what format comes out.. A few clicks on a mouse and a few keyboard strokes you got the music you want in your letterbox the next day..

Re: Albums on memory cards...goodbye CD?
Yeah I can't see this happening myself either, It's a cool idea but I don't think it will take off. I also saw some things about wrist band memory sticks with albums on which is VERY COOL =) I can imagine wearing an album on my wrist ^^
