I want to like them.......the reviews of their live performances are amazing! I just cant quite seem to gel with the music........just another angry band with monster vocals is my first thoughts and I just cant get beyond that.

Re: YES! Lamb Of God soon to be back in the UK!

See I differ wildly from that view - the vocals are my least favourite part, but any other vocal style just wouldn't work anyway. But the music is astounding - it's "metal" enough to keep the non-muso's happy, and it's "progressive" enough to keep the technical fans happy - and they just have the perfect balance between downright violent, and intericate and "educated" playing - if you follow what I mean...

From a drummers point of view (mine) then Chris Adler alone is worth listening to. The guy is one of the best drummers to hit the metal scene for ages - probably, IMO, the most exciting drummer since Mike Portnoy, Gene Hoglan, Raymond Herrera, or even way back to Dave Lombardo! The guitarists are VERY VERY good at what they do, and way better, both technically and musically, than 90% of the other "death/shouty/growly/speed" metal bands out there. To me, they are probably the best metal band to emerge in the last 10 years

Yes, seen Jojo a few times! Very fine drummer indeed

Sacrament is a fantastic record but I still think ashes is still the best (IMO) - specifically Hourglass, Laid To Rest and Now You Have Something To Die For...

Thats the point, they do interest me but everytime I have tried to get into them the vocals have put me off. I have loads of music by monster vocalists and cant quite get over the ......not another one, boredom factor.......it's like having mustard with everything you eat. I like mustard, but after a while it gets annoying and I just want some brown sauce. Trouble is that I have never enjoyed those monster vocals and have just put up with them for the sake of the music, it's almost too much trouble to get through.

and they ruined that little girls Birthday party

well i was into monster/screaming vocals a long time ago and i couldnt see myself listening to it in the future either....but it just happened in the end. things is tho i can relate to the reasons why they do it, the way they feel about the lyrics they write is the way its sung. if you read the lyrics of these bands with the type vocals you can see what it is they write about. love, injustice, political agenda,hypocrisy...etc. and i understand their anger on the subjects and therefore i feel what they feel

You can create the anger without the monster vocals. Rage Against the Machine managed it, SOAD managed it, virtually every band involved in the hardcore scene managed it. Infact, you dont even need vocals as long as the music is good enough......I cant understand what most bands are singing about anyway. It seems like it's just a fashion and one I could personally do without, it's not like it has to sound like Cliff Richard, just take away those gimmicky sounding monster vocals.....leave the screaming, thats fine.

Re: YES! Lamb Of God soon to be back in the UK!

hmmm ok i suppose im not explaining it very well, yes i agree both RATM and SOAD have accomplished that in their music. Its definately not a fashion, i cant agree with that remark, and bands definately dont do it for a joke. I guess its how about how you feel the music. im guessing that you are a lot older than me and therefore its harder to get the concept of it.

c'mon Matt help me out!

Re: YES! Lamb Of God soon to be back in the UK!

If all bands had the same vocals, music would be boring! I have no problem with LoG style of vocals even tho it wouldn't be my first choice - but it just fits their music, and it works

Maybe something to do with age. I do get more fussy. I did say that I have a lot of stuff with 'monster vocals' so I do get it and can understand your feelings surrounding the music and I still think it's fashion.....we were all saying the same thing about punk rock in the 70s......that it was part of the music to sing and play in a certain style......if you read about the USA hardcore movement you would find that a lot of bands adopted sloppy playing even though they were actually extremely good musicians, that was when being a good musician did not sell records. That was not the first time that fashion has dictated a certain trade mark sound and it certainly wont be the last.
