David Gilmour, live in Gdansk

Just a heads up for any David Gilmour fans (who will probably be aware of this anyway).

http://www.davidgilmour.com/gdansk.htm

Several versions coming out, 2 CD, 2CD + DVD, 2CD + 2DVD etc etc. Smacks of milking things a bit but for those of us who can't get enough David Gilmour frankly I don't care! I'll probably get the 2CD + 2DVD version which is about £25.

Cheers
Andy

Planet Rock have been playing tracks from this release of an evening recently, it sounds great with the best version of Comfortably Numb I have ever heard.
I'll be getting it.

Re: David Gilmour, live in Gdansk

The 3CD/2DVD of Gdansk version is £39.99 at Amazon and Play, I was reading on another forum that it was shot in HD so a BD release looks inevitable.

Remember That Night is a giant ripoff on BD, the picture is little better than standard and its a whopping £33 at Play, the Region A release is only around £13-£15 but it is region locked unfortunately

Re: David Gilmour, live in Gdansk

The 2nd dvd has a 5.1 version of the entire On An Island album which I'd like to hear. Why does the price rise exponentially with each disc though? 2 cd and dvd 12 quid, extra dvd 25 quid, extra cd up to 40 quid
I'm happy to pay the bump for the 5.1 dvd as that is a nice addition but why is an additional cd of live tracks another 15! That is more than the 3 disc basic.

Re: David Gilmour, live in Gdansk

Just noticed that there's a one hour version of this, presumably some of the highlights, on BBC4 on Friday at 9:10PM.

This is followed by Gdansk Diary and The PF Story.

Re: David Gilmour, live in Gdansk

the 3 CD + 2 DVD comes in a long box, similar to Is There Anybody Out There?

It comes with a poster, plectrum, postcards and backstage pass in an envelope which I haven't opened as yet

Haven't watched the DVDs yet but I have given the CDs a quick spin. Great versions of Astronomy Domine and Echoes

The LP boxed set also has Wots...Uh The Deal which is also available from iTunes

Yeah, I received my copy today. Looks absolutely mint. Have only watched the Barn Jams and listened to On An Island 5.1 - excellent!

Re: David Gilmour, live in Gdansk

Two of us watched DG on Jools Hollands long version of 'Later' and felt poor old Dave was the worse for wear and his voice was gone, especially as the BBC4 stuff from the Gdansk DVD sounded fine. Has he got new teeth or something?

Could also be he was very emotional. After all, this was his first performance after Rick died, they were playing one of Rick's songs and Rick was meant to be performing with them.

I agree, it wasn't one of his stronger performances. However, that can be put down to:

1) His first show since the death of one of his closest friends, whom he was also supposed to have been playing with

2) His voice won't have "gone" he probably didn't have enough time to rehearse and perfect his singing voice. He sounded similar during the Live 8 rehearsals, yet sounded better during the actual concert. He does have his "off" days, throughout his 06 tour his singing would fluctuate occasionally - no biggie. His voice on his next album will sound as good as ever!

3) He hasn't performed Remember a Day live before - lack of experience and rehearsals, emotional affect.

One thing is certain, the "feeling" was not compromised. Both Remember a Day and The Blue were particularly overwhelming not least because they were in tribute to the late Richard Wright. If anything, his playing has been improving year upon year! I didn't think his voice was particularly bad. Naturally though his voice won't be the same as when he was younger.

And it does seem like he has new teeth, doesn't it?!
