Metallica re-issues

This will not be of interest to most I know, but Metallica are re-issuing their albums on vinyl at the moment.

Crucially, as the recordings weren't great, on any format, these have been re-mastered, and better still been given the thumbs up by fans. Sorry, but I don't trust reviewers when it comes to re-mastered re-issues.

So far Kill 'em All, Ride the Lightening, are out already, while Master of Puppets has just been released.

For me, the latter is the one to buy.

Re: Metallica re-issues

I love the Metallica's reissued, more importantly they should re-record the bass on AJFA.

I think that's the plan.

Re: Metallica re-issues

Was Ride ever released as a remastered cd? I still only have the original version on Music for Nations but I know it was re-released on a major but don't know if they did anything to it or if it's exactly the same as the version I already have.

Re: Metallica re-issues

Interesting..those 3 albums could be worth re-investing in. Nothing else they did matters .

I have a copy of the 12" gold vinyl Creeping Death on MFN from 1984[?]. That was pressed on heavy vinyl.

Very droll...................

There have been CD re-masters in the US, but these are very rare.

Yeah I have that too. I also have Ride the Lightening MFN picture disc and the original gatefold MFN re-releases of Kill em All and Puppets that were pressed as two records that played on 45.

If anyone has the Jump in the Fire pic disc or coloured vinyl that they would like to part with then please let me know!

Re: Metallica re-issues

I've got the Jump in the Fire pic disc but has a large split that runs about half way through it

Re: Metallica re-issues

Sorry, didn't want to start another metallica thread! Anyone got Death Magnetic yet? Do you agree with the current loudness issue? Never been a fan of Metallicas production on their records, this would be another knock if it's as bad as some people make out..

The loudness issue is one of the biggest problems in music. Not only does it remove the peaks (nuances) in tracks, it also makes a lot bands discs ear shredding.

If you slip the ole' wave across something like Sound Forge, ask for it to check for clipping - and the screen promptly gets covered in a sea of black lines tipped with yellow. That's not good. Each clip is a line, so if there's a lot of them......well.

A lot discs have been panned because of over loudness and compression.

Tbh it defeats the whole purpose of listening to it on good kit as all the fine points of the music are literally shut out. Which is the idea to some extent. The loudness factor is because the amount of ripping that takes place, and to make the disc/MP3 playable on the move.

I hope this isn't the case when I get the album!

Re: Metallica re-issues

I'll still waiting for a remaster of Justice, it would be great to finally hear that in all it's glory ! For me though it would have to be either CD or SACD as I don't have a turntable any more.

John, there is already a CD re-master, but it's very rare, and, as far as I know a US only release. People from here have picked it up, but that was a few years ago now and the cost may be prohibitive.

Check one of the disc sales search engines and see what comes up, or check the US version of fleabay.

Re: Metallica re-issues

When you say "remastered",...

I take it you mean properly and not the modern phenomenon of "hot records"; bumping every frequency to max and thus all the details are lost?
