Re: Santana appreciation thread

the first few satana albums are the best. the later 70s/early 80s stuff isn't so good, but the remix album divine light is pretty good. it's similar to the miles davis remix album panthalassa, where they take the original masters and create a new ambient mix, they don't add any instruments like drum machines, they just bring certain instruments up in the mix and change the atmosphere

carlos santana is one of the best guitarists ever, i prefer him over hendrix. he has that beautiful guitar sound like david gilmour. i'd love to be able to play like him

Re: Santana appreciation thread

I quite like Santana, seen him live ages ago and have a few records and CD's.

His real forte is playing live where he puts on a good show, but if he's let down by anything,it's that he isn't a very versatile guitarist, and by that I don't mean he isn't good,it's just that he plays one style.

The period in the 70s when Neal Schon was the "other" guitarist in the band was superb especially considering Schon was about 17 at the time.

Another of Carlos' strengths was in spotting good talent(like Schon above),and it was good to see him make a return to decent form with Supernatural although the follow up was a bit limp.

Not the best guitarist ever though....
